alan moore and his books are inherently leftist- if 'lefty takes' are hysterical to you, I have bad news for you.

Yeah, ridiculous take, he says a nazi is a far right...I was like, they are authoritarian national socialist, what is right wing about that?

Considering that Alan Moore's politics has always been left leaning; it's not that weird that many left wing perspectives can be found in the book.

Old comment I know but Alan Moore is know for being an anarchist, I don't understand how you can read Watchmen and think that he isn't

Creating an analysis of a novel with the assumption that your audience hasn't read it yet and is reading it alongside you is the worst format you can pick. I don't need a critic to spend half the time reading passages from the work and treating me like i don't know what will happen next. This video feels like it's a cross between a critique and a bootleg audiobook. Good intentions tho, I'm sure the next chapters get better as you get more comfortable making them, but i can't listen to this. Half the stuff you say is simply not true - just to name a few: You siad that it's a subversion of the genre that the vigilantes are not appreciated by society and law enforcement. Not only is that the very definition of "vigilante" but also not every superhero is appreciated by society and law enforcement, possibly the two most famous superheroes in the world: Spider-Man and Batman are in fact not. "Roarscharch doesn't dress in spandex like other superheroes" but it's not only fairly common for superheroes to dress up as detectives, but also Roarscharch is a play on the detective fiction as much as Veidt or Dan are on the superhero fiction. You just kinda babble on for an hour without any substance, bunch of unedited ramblings of someone, who didn't do any research or even write a script before turning a mic on to read a comic book for an hour with some erroneous remarks sprinkled in-between.

This video is clearly designed to be presented to students in his class. A quick search in his channel shows that Aaron is an English teacher, so he created this video in order for his students to understand the text he assigned them to read. Also remember this was created during Covid times, so he probably just made this video so students who can’t make the zoom meeting can get a better understanding of the text since there was no in-class time to go over it. This type of analysis where you read along with the teacher and pick out important notes throughout the text is a very common way of teaching. I remember my teachers doing the exact same thing when I was in school. This book was written in 86 where superheroes like Bat-Man and Spider-Man were still in the silver age of comic books. So during this time, characters like Bat-Man and Spider-Man were nowhere near as villainized and hated by the law or society to the same extent as Alan Moore portrayed that they should be in Watchmen. It was thanks to Moore’s work that comic book makers would explore the dark side of heroes more after the release of Watchmen leading to the dark-age of comics. Name me all the heroes you can think of that are dressed like detectives and compare them to the amount of heroes that wear spanks. You must have some sort of attention problem or something because listening to his “ramblings” actually yielded some smart analysis of the book. Maybe you should just listen and actually follow what he is saying because nothing he said is “erroneous” as many of the arguments he made had evidence pulled from the text to support his claims, which is what text analysis is supposed to accomplish and I am sure his students appreciated the comic book more from this. I know I did.
