Fabulous video making me want to run to the dollar store. Loved how the masking roll around brush made such wonderful random texture. OH HOW WONDERFUL to see how you 'manipulated' old brushes to new and useful brushes. I watched you one day when you had a brush you did tree bark with. Was one of these brushes IT? I really was interested in THAT one especially and hope you can clue me in as to which one or how to make one for myself. It's awesome. I love your channel and have learned a lot....especially about masking fluid and have intro'd these ideas to my art class. Yay.
@TheDevonArtist

Hi CJ, I tend to use a variety of brushes when painting bark, sometimes one for stippling, one for rolling paint onto the paper, one for splattering and another one, my most fine size 00 for adding those tiny details. The stippling one for the link below is a good one for tree bark and foliage. 😉 Thank you so much for following my channel. Paul 🎨 kzitem.info/news/bejne/znyh2oyHh2mJi6g

I found both, yours and his, useful. Yours I saw first and learn a lot. I haven't come to make a 'replicator' to my taste though. I will get at it one day. Rob Dudley's was also interesting. His video was done some 6 years ago and only about masking fluid and how he couldn't work without it. He gives many DO and DON'T concerning this product. I watch a lot of videos since understanding is fundamental to me. I grab something different in each video and make my way through the information. I also buy books. I live in a rural region and there is no workshop offer around here. Moreover, wc isn't that popular. Thanks for answering my questions.

I made some brushes for making grass or fur strokes, .pebbles, leaves etc. I just used very small tipped scissors to snip old brushes into sections..(easier with flat brushes) I also snipped a toothbrush , no pliers just separated the bristles into tiny clumps. I find it works best on stiffer bristles. If you sharpen the end of a paintbrush you can use it to draw with ink, then watercolour washes. Those pointed wooden sticks for nail care are useful for scratching in branches, trees or foliage.
