Stephen, realizing you made this a couple of years ago now, but I cant thank you enough for creating this! I recently blew out my meniscus and can no longer paint plein air on the ground like I used to so this set up will be ideal for me. I really dont like the tray in front and down low either and I like to work flat with acrylics. finding this video was like a needle in the haystack and "gold"! so appreciate you for sharing this with the world!

Finally! A setup with the tray on the side. I am starting painting with watercolors and was looking to make an easy and quick setup for home and plein air. I was thinking to use my photo/videography tripod and an attached arm to it on the side. So, very similar. Stephen, thank you very much!

I'm glad it was helpful! This is by far my favorite setup. I love the side arm from Tether Tools and it works like a dream. My plein air bag is a little bit heavier because of it, but my back thanks me every time I paint with it. :)

This is such a gift you’ve given us!! THANK YOU! I hope the viewers appreciate how much time, effort and frustration you have saved them from with these 3 videos & blog. I have spent DAYS & DAYS over the years trying to find the supplies to assemble just this type of versatile, adaptable, compact & affordable plein-air stand/support for ‘water-coloring’. (There’s at least 1 other U-tuber who is marketing a less adaptable & less durable setup similar to yours for $200+ !) Given your level of ingenuity, I’ld like to know how you anchor the tripod against wind outdoors? What tie-downs or clips to wind-proof objects on the trays do you use? Thank you again for these extremely valuable plein-air setup suggestions!

What is the name of the tripod and the side bar? I have shoulder issues and something so lightweight would be wonderful. Thanks.
