A walk through the what is called lock 12 in York County Pennsylvania . Along the river "locks" were built to load the ships with lime from a local kiln where the lime was produced. A step back in time to the ways things were once done. I walk along one of the holding areas in this video. It's the long rock lined pit. A dam has been built on the river since. The Holtwood dam, and there are others along the river futher up like the Conewingo dam. You will see me on a rock formation along the river that was once underwater all the time. Periodically the dam is opened for overflow at which point a siren sounds to alert anyone along to river to get to higher ground. Sadly many have drowned over the years when they were caught in the water release.
Then I proceed up the hill along a stream with a series of small waterfalls. These would obviously be more agressive after a major rain. I enjoyed the gentle peaceful relaxing feel of the woods and the stream.
I met a few other hikers here, one at the end who I gave a lift 8 miles back to his place of origin. I hope you enjoy my walk as if you were there with me.
