Perfection. Possibly the best single from what was probably the best year in what was definitely the best decade of English pop. Paul Weller says this is the song he wishes he had written. David Gilmour I believe likewise. Damon Albarn adores it. Bob Geldof said he had been "chasing that sound for years". It just has something, I don't know what. If I knew what, I'd bottle it and sell it. God save the Kinks.

1967 I was 10 years old, remember listening to this, whilst staring out of the lounge room window. I am 66 years old now and the memory is still vivid. Moved to Australia when I was 14. Still regard the Kinks as one of the greatest bands ever and Waterloo Sunset as possibly the greatest song ever written

Such an atmospheric song that really encapsulates a time and a place. As an Australian who always dreamt of traveling to London, but didn't manage to travel until their early 50's a few years back... I knew I was in London when I stood at Waterloo Bridge at sunset humming this song to myself with a smile on my face and tears in my eyes. Absolutely love this song and the kinks, they are so under rated... although, I am a Beatles gal 😉 💜

Dirty old river, must you keep rolling Flowing into the night? People so busy, make me feel dizzy Taxi light shines so bright! But I don't need a friend As long as I gaze on Waterloo sunset I am in paradise! Sha-la-la! Every day, I look at the world from my window! Sha-la-la! But chilly, chilly is the evening time! Waterloo sunset's fine! (Waterloo sunset's fine!) Terry meets Julie Waterloo station Every Friday night! But I am so lazy, don't want to wander I stay at home at night But I don't feel afraid As long as I gaze on Waterloo sunset I am in paradise! Sha-la-la! Every day, I look at the world from my window! Sha-la-la! But chilly, chilly is the evening time! Waterloo sunset's fine! (Waterloo sunset's fine!) Millions of people swarming like flies 'round Waterloo underground But Terry and Julie cross over the river Where they feel safe and sound And they don't need no friends As long as they gaze on Waterloo Sunset They are in paradise! Waterloo sunset's fine (Waterloo sunset's fine) Waterloo sunset's fine
