Just make sure you had enough sugar and watermelon and all that good stuff to that must.. and then add the whole package of dry yeast it will ferment just fine!! No need to activate nothing! Make sure before you add yeast you're between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit
@geraldfrost4710
3 ай бұрын
The yeast will activate in five minutes, as you say. For bread, you do have to pre activate. In wine, nope. Also, for two gallons, you only need about a quarter packet (or less). She's following a recipe. With practice, she'll simplify and accelerate her pattern. For instance, just add the sugar; it will dissolve in a couple days. Admiration of her willingness to try.
@Identace445

@@geraldfrost4710 oh that makes sense a recipe!! I was just trying to ensure her fermentation because yeast packs are literally under five bucks..... and you can't really over pitch yeast

@Identace445 I've posted wine making videos, and a comment on how little yeast I use sparked a video. 0.5 grams in one batch, and 0.05 grams in the other. (Doesn't everyone have a triple-beam sub-gram balance?) Made no difference to the final product. More yeast starts faster (as expected), but in a month both batches had fully fermented and settled out the same amount of yeast. She's doing a reasonable job on making wine, she's learning, and she's loving. Good presentation!
@Identace445

It is a good presentation!! And she's making it look super fun too! And no not all of us own Triple Beam sub Gram balance....😅 but really yeast is soo cheap...and like u said the amount of yeast makes no difference...but you definitely need enough yeast...

@@Identace445 When using your own fruit, ya need more yeast to dominate any wild yeast. I recommend using store bought juice to practice with. It's been pasteurized, so that's one less thing to have to think about. I have the scales from measuring flourescenr dye prior to adding to plastics. Hyper-accurate. Nothing nefarious, just strange.

100 degrees is too hot for the yeast. Yeast just needs room temp water to activate. Too much heat kills it.

Now after 21 days your done making your alcohol...you'll need to filter it 3 times for a clearer wine and I like to cut with distilled water almost 50/50 with 1/4 of it is sugar melted in my cut water because you loss some of your sweetness from filtering....
