I have scoured KZitem for hours trying to find this exact explanation to understand how resonance works, I couldn’t understand why and how the waves would return. This was explained in a way that I could easily understand and now it all makes sense! I’ve never taken physics in my life, I just wanted to understand the concept. Waves are super cool!

Should really have watched this in high school. Now I'm in college studying optics. It took me years to figure out how standing waves work. This video explained it to me clearly in minutes. Thanks a lot, Mr. Anderson.

Can someone please help me? Why does anti reflection coating of lenses have to be a quarter of the wavelength of light, if both of the reflected waves (from the first surface and the second surface) will undergo 180 degree phase change? Won't they interfere constructively in any way, despite the thickness of the coating, since the reflected rays will be exactly the same as the incident wave, except they BOTH will be 'flipped upside down', having the same phase (no phase change between the two reflected waves)? Both of the reflected waves should undergo 180 degree phase change and therefore, interfere constructively.

the fixed end is fixed . when the last particle of the slinky exerts an upward fore on the first particle of the fixed rod its unable to move it , but there's the Newtons third law of motion that exerts a reaction force in the opposite direction to that of the force exerted by the last particle of the slinky hence now the slinky has an inverted pulse
