@@darcykeddell4930 no doubt you are correct about the huge cost of replacing pump and injectors on the Landcruiser, it is truly scary. But the direct injection petrol used in the Patrol is using the same basic technology and therefore I suspect has similarly expensive pump and injectors. The turbos no doubt add to cost for the Landcruiser, as do the DPFs. But then you have to factor in the extra fuel in the Patrol, all of it at least 95 ron. Don’t get me wrong, the Patrol is a very good car and much better value than the new Landcruiser, but I wouldn’t assume that the Patrol has a cheap and simple fuel system.

People are still willing to pay 120k for a what's essentially a 1985 75 series with a v8 update. I don't know why people are so hard on the Y62, sure it's getting on but I wouldn't call anyone crazy for picking one over a 200 or 300 series just because its a 10yr old platform. I know a lot of people don't like the interior and that's fair enough. I have a 2021Ti-L. So far I have done an aftermarket Android Auto /Carplay install whilst retaining factory features. Couple of other simple mods include a Carobotor digital Dash available here in Australia from EC off-road and also a LHD style centre dash available from the same. Wood grain can be vinyl wrapped or painted. All this can be done in less than the cost of the LC300. Plenty of upgrades available. I just wish there was enough bolstering in the front seats from factory, I obviously thrash it around the corners. And the steering wheel feels skinny. Both obviously can be resolved by visiting an upholsterer. Again all less than the cost of LC300. So far I am very happy with MY62. And the engine sounds great after centre muffler upgrade from Harrops. Also getting a set of 20 inch wheels from States for highway driving and keeping the 18inch wheels for when I take the family to the beach. Even with all the mods available it still works out cheaper than the cost of a LC300.

What surprises me is considering the Y62 Patrol is still built in Japan (a RHD country), that Nissan decided not to update the interior of the RHD Y62. Is it because we (Australia) are the only RHD market that's still buying the Y62? Or does Nissan think Australian's don't deserve modern technology? Which ever it is, it's a missed opportunity for Nissan to really stick it to Toyota by giving the Y62 a 21st Century interior. Then buyers might actually desire to really buy it, rather than what some buy it for, simply an alternative to the 300 series since they can't get one quick enough.

Extend that 3 years to 5 years and take into account the thousands that will be spent replacing injectors on the common rail diesel cruiser and the savings will swing back to the patrol. Access to the injectors is probably worse and parts more expensive, whereas I know somebody who has owned a y62 since they came out and apart from an early timing chain issue (updated in later models) he hasn't had to replace anything outside of normal servicing. It's that it's still a V8 and like half the price of a 300 series and no wait.... 70 series has 4 year wait...

What it has: huge petrol engine, great 4WD system, surprisingly good handling, lotta space. What it doesn't have: plenty of the LC300's mod-cons, fuel efficiency. Then there's the price difference. What matters more to you?

Im sticking with my Pajero. A lift, good 32s, front bar/winch, rear diff lock and some plates...gets me everywhere I want to go and the 3.2 returns around 11l per 100. 7 years old and hasnt missed a beat.

Best value 4wd on the market. Sadly a horrible twenty year old interior but an awesome car. Change the head unit, you've got a comfortable, capable beast... And it's a V8!
@johncanalese588

It's actually about 10 years old. But seriously the head-unit is the determining factor making this vehicle "a comfortable, capable beast" ? You need to take a good hard look at yourself

But if you buy a Patrol you'd have to be seen driving a Patrol and look like a bogan. I'd rather spend more for a 300-series and get a vehicle with new interior.

The 5.6 litre V8 in the Patrol is fuel efficient compared to the recently superseeded 5.7 litre V8 in the Lexus LX570. Kudos to Nissan for a good traditional petrol motor. It may cost more to fuel but no turbos to go wrong, or fancy hybrid systems and stop start engine technology where the maintenance and upkeep could wipe out the fuel savings over the lifetime of a vehicle.

Yep I agree. People think saving 3 litres per hundred is the be all and end all but don't realise the long term maintenance costs of diesels and hybrids.

@@AP-ow5vu Not only that, depending on how they drive they might not be saving as much fuel as they think in the real world. Check out DMW's tow test between a Diesel 200 series and the Y62.
