Hi guys. Waylon was huge! He was playing in Buddy Holly's band back in the day. He was supposed to be on the plane with Buddy the night that Buddy died in the crash. He and another band member were asked to give up their seats for 2 other performers, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper. Then many years later there was a Country Supergroup called The Highwaymen. It had Waylon, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson. As to the story telling, it has been said for many years that country is 3 cords and the truth.

The song refers to a couple whose position in "high society" has placed strains on their marriage ("this successful life we're livin' got us feudin' like the Hatfields and McCoys") and finances ("four-car garage, and we're still buildin' on"). Named for German nobleman Jakob Luckenbach, who helped settle the Texas Hill Country in 1845, Luckenbach is known as a venue for country music and for its German-Texan heritage. Peace out.

Love Waylon. You should check out "The Highway Men". It's a group with Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, and Kris Kristofereson. They are awesome!! And it's always good to hear Willie and Waylon together. I too used to only listen to hard rock but then I was rescued by Willie and Waylon and others. I branched into everything when I turned 50.

In the 1950's Waylon played bass for Buddy Holly. February 3, 1959, Waylon was supposed to be on that fatal flight that killed Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. Richardson (the Big Bopper). Such a wonderful song. Waylon Jennings really struggled with survivors remorse because Richie Valenz was sick and they had a plane that three could go on and the rest had to take the long bus ride home so Waylon gave Richie his seat on the plane. The weather was bad and the plane crashed and killed Richie, Buddy Holly and The Big Bopper The line in the song American Pie talks about the front page of the paper and refers to it as the day the music died.

I've always enjoyed Waylon's music especially from the 60's-80's. I remember his theme song "Good Ol' Boys" from "The Dukes Of Hazzard". Some other songs I like are "Only Daddy That'll Walk The Line", "Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys", "Don't You Think This Outlaw Bit's Done Got Out Of Hand?", "Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way", "Good Hearted Woman", I'm A Ramblin' Man" etc. He was part of the legendary Highwaymen supergroup with Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson & Johnny Cash.

Waylon used to complain that the writers of the song had never been to Luckenbach and didn't know anything. Luckenbach was a dead township that got put on the national map when Jerry Jeff Walker recorded a album in an old dancehall there. He was credited with starting the outlaw country music scene with the album(Viva Terlinga). Great album.

Waylon Jennings and Elvis actually started out together with Johnny Cash at Sun Records in 1955. None of them were known to anyone in the world at that time starting out as 18 ear old young men. There is a famous picture of them, that was taken in the recording studio of this little just started, small new record company named "Sun Records." Can you imagine what they had standing in their little recording studio, with Elvis, Waylon Jennings, and Johnny Cash all together as young men of 18 to 20 yrs. old? If they only knew what all of them would turn out to be in a couple of years, and Elvis in a couple of months after his first record went Platinum! Thanks folks
