I completely forgot about when movies were movies until seeing this. Damn time passes quickly.

Ship at 1:46 is my former ship, USS Charles F. Adams. Weird to be youtube surfing and see that. We used to go up to Charleston from our homeport of Mayport, FL. from time to time. Many moons ago. Thanks for the vid.

I miss the days when stations would actually sign off. The anthem and the static noise would wake me up off the couch, to go bed!

Correct, Danielle. Channel 25 first signed on as WCOS-TV on 1 May 1953, at least a month before WCSC-TV began telecasting. However, Channel 26 was off the air for five years (1956-1961), so it is not the longest continuously operating TV station in South Carolina (WCSC-TV holds that distinction).

Wish I could answer that, Eric. Some sign-ons does seem to move faster. Maybe that's why I like the sign-OFFS better!

These are great. Love em....but before I die I'd love to see at least ONE of the UNITED STATES COAST GUARD (not sure if any even exist)...we served in every war WW1 escorting troop ships. WW2 we operated the landing craft at Normandy and the Pacific Islands. Korea off the coast of Inchon. Vietnam, off the coast and on the inland waters. Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan, taking and securing the ports. Not to mention Homeland Security (were active on 9/11 too organizing and directing boat lifts to get people out of Manhattan)

Also I think sign-ons are rushed so they can start airing revenue generating commercials asap

@SignOffsGuy-- Why does the sign-on seem a little more rushed than the sign-off?

That's a Skipjack-class SSN. West Virginia is a SSBN. That video is from the first half of the 1960s, way before the West Virginia was commissioned.

The carrier signal was turned off, leaving the viewer with a blank channel 5, no station broadcasting!
