Clearly the tractive effort is not adapted this this convoy. There should have been a miscalculation somewhere... As a general rule, I found fret trains in the US to be too heavy with respect to the track quality and aligment, and with respect to the couplers resistance. Amazing the number of broken couplers that can were "catched" on video... Here at @6:50, the trains need to be separated in two half to go thru the grade...

Man that was awesome, them SD40’s were screaming their guts out! That’s pretty damn impressive they got that thing moving again after it stalled. Of course, the best way to get a stalled train upgrade is to double the hill- cut the train in half , bring the first half up to the top of the grade, put it in a siding and then get the rest of the train up to the top of the grade, get the first half, put it together and carry on.

I highly doubt that they would get it moving again after stalling on a hill without additional locos to help. My guess is that they stopped to cool off traction motors before they overheated. DC traction has left the building due to this and other reasons especially in territories with long, steep grades. Love the video and the SD40 locomotives in action.
