I carried a lil' native for years before I lost it. Just ordered a Baby Banter to give it a shot, but I honestly loved that lil' native. The compression lock is so good.

In terms of blade steel S30v should have more edge retention than S35VN. S35VN is slightly tougher though. S35VN was developed so manufacturers had a easier steel to machine (and as a result, easier to sharpen for users like us).
@EEDC
3 жыл бұрын
Definitely good info and definitely agree with all points made bud! I didn't mention edge "retention" for that reason. S35 having a slightly better corrosion resistance (potentially more NI) and slightly (miniscule really) step up in toughness is what I should have clarified. I really do value a blade that is well rounded more so... that should have been clarified here! Thank you for watching and adding some knowledge for everyone brotha! REALISTICALLY it appears all that was added was niobium to help with the machine working heat/stress ect... and that the Ni has a slightly larger range. Less Vanadium and less carbon, less carbon would In theory lead to more free cr .... that's another place where I'm saying potentially higher corrosion resistance. Hope that logic makes sense

@@EEDC Yeah I would definitely agree S35VN is a bit more balanced. A great steel especially at some of the prices we've been seeing recently.

@@EEDC the sad thing is from most of the testing I've seen done on KZitem no company heat treats their S30V or S35VN well. They both seem to get out cut by some of the budget steels like 14c28n. Now that's a steel I want to see on more knives.

Someone already said it, but screw it. I'm an individual my voice must be heard! s/ (sarcasm for those that don't know what s/ means). s35vn isn't really a win over s30v. Especially not if you value edge retention. S35vn is just a little tougher, and easier for the manufacturer to machine. I've never actually noticed it being easier to sharpen, in real world use though. As far as corrosion resistance goes, it isn't like people's s30v knives are just rusting away to pieces. Heck I don't even notice any problems with my d2 blades and i live in a humid coastal climate. My point being, I think s30v is better, especially for edc style use (which these knives are 100% designed for). Would pick it over s35vn any day of the week.

I agree to an extent man... I actually value the toughness though... and while the s30 - s35 and s45 probably have more of an effect in manufacturing than use... I still prefer it ! In "theory" sold to us as an upgrade... I have had PLENTY of S30 chip on my granted they were factory edges so maybe better steal underneath would be fine... but It was frustrating for sure! thanks for watching and the feedback bro!

About the looks, which of course is subjective and personal but I really think Spydercos are butt ugly. Thats said, the Shaman, Native 5 and Lil native has something special. That clean curved spine is lovely, and gives it such a distinct look far from all the other Spydercos “pelican” shaped knifes with their ugly humps. I know, they are great knifes, but I remember when browsing for my first ‘high quality’ knife I never thought I’d get a Spyderco, but I spotted the Native 5 and it just clicked! The Lil Native was my second one shortly after. Looking for a Shaman now, to build on the family.

Tough choice looks like one rides deeper, which is good, in certain settings. Blade looks too small on native, for versatility How about Delica?

I don't have too much experience with the delica but it's because its not my favorite design style (not a knock just a preference ya know) I like the fatter knives just out of shear attraction to the aesthetic not for function. The little native is a bit small but due to the position of your fingers and the control.. i feel like it makes up for it in absolute comfort! Thanks for watching Frank!!! Hope to see ya more!

🧐The Baby Banter is actually a little bit shorter than even the Dragonfly. Baby Banter is a great little knife, but the Dragonfly is still worth the extra money (although I'm comparing the LW, the G10 version is overpriced imho).
