We bought a Class B from D&L a couple of years ago. Hoping you two have better luck than we did. In our experience, their description of the mechanical condition was not accurate and we ended up spending thousands of dollars after the purchase just getting it safe for the road. It was ultimately our fault because we trusted D&L’s description and we didn’t have the van inspected by an independent mechanic prior to purchase. I encourage you to take the van to an independent mechanic for a complete inspection before finalizing the deal.

I have owned over 20 used RVs from pop ups to diesel pushers including Class Bs in over 30 yeara of RVing . What you are describing is just part of buying a older used RV and when you buy from a northern dealer you will expect more issiue due to rust. What works one day doesn't always work the next. RVs always need work regardless of who you bought them from thats just a fact of life. I guarantee you still have a ton less money in your used one then a brand new one cost and have a better built one as well. Knowing how to do even basic to moderate repairs on a RVs is an essential skill if you are going to be serious about owning one. For example 25 years ago when we decided to go from using one recreationaly to full time for a few years I went to RV tech school in Florida and took the RV technician certification course not for a career choice but just so I could repair the majority of the problems on my RVs (our home at the time) myself without relying or waiting on a dealership and plus knowing It was repaired right the first time instead because many dealerships service departments have messed up more then they have fixed because they have unqualified people working on them (mostly chain dealers like camping world are guilty of that where they have 1 or 2 certified techs at each location supervising 20 untrained shop laborers that are actually the ones doing the work)

Hey, I live in Michigan! Welcome. I know you two like nature, so all of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan is for you. I just got back from Finland, and the Upper Peninsula reminds me so much of that country. Lots of remote areas, wildlife, lakes, etc. In the lower peninsula stick to the northern part, like Sleeping Bear Dunes. Of course I saw someone recommend Mackinaw Island. Well done, that seems like a great choice, I would have worried about the fuel economy of the bus. Do get any small bits of rust treated asap as rust can develop rapidly given the right conditions. The bodywork stuff you can easily sort yourselves while travelling. Then get the underside treated before it goes in storage and you will be good for many years. Rust is much more an issue in some states than others.

Hey guys, I just checked out your van at the deals website and it's perfect. If you don't mind, I have a couple of suggestions for the bed area. If you were to keep the bench part of the bed at the very back in a permanent bed position, you could put a 2 or 3 inch memory foam topper on it (it's kind of bumpy) permanently and I think it is big enough for 2 people. Then you could remove the 2 upper cupboards above the seats at the start of the bedroom and put a laguna table between. That way your bed is always ready and you still have a table that would swing out of the way. Can't wait to see what you do with it!

That's an awesome find! Having grown up in MI, I'd venture a guess that that van came from another state or was taken care of immaculately. Michigan uses a lot of salt on its roads in the winter months, causing rust in older vehicles. The fact that there is no real rust issue shows that the van was stored during winter months or may have come from out of state. In either case, I do like the dealer's sense of humor and the fact that he moderates a van page, providing information to expose fraudulent sales. Nice. Good luck and I can't wait to see your next adventure. I'm just curious as to where this dealer is located. I travel back to the Grand Rapids area several times a year and would love to explore other vehicles he has for sale. Cheers!

Torch Lake is beautiful! It looks really lovely and clear and is a big vacation spot. Also the Upper Peninsula/Mackinaw Island is fun. Lots of fudge, and an old time-y vibe, too. Don't rule out Detroit. There has been so much development there and there's all the history with Motown music. People in Michigan are so nice. Have fun!

I am so happy for you two. It was worrisome for your viewers because our hearts went out to you both when the former camper van went up in smoke and also buying another one is soooo stressful. Thank God that you finally found your new home and you can trust the person you are dealing with because he has had great reviews from others. May your lives become a little bit easier as you relax and enjoy your next journey.

Also ask when you pick up if undercoating might be a viable option so you don’t get into the rusting issue eventually.

Excited for you!! We didn't take a van, but about 17 years ago my husband and I (I'm originally from the UK) drove around lake Michigan (Wisconsin & Michigan) I our little Honda civic hatchback. It was a wonderful experience and SO scenic. We also hit the U.P. (Upper Peninsula). Door County in WI is also wonderful. We lived in Madison WI at the time, so it was great to see the difference areas as you drove around the lake.

Woop woop. Great to see you are back with a new van ❤ If you need some places to check out, we went to some interesting places in the US. You can check them out on our US playlist (Sorry our videos weren't as well edited back then 🥺) Hope it helps. Would really recommend Centralia (Abandoned town with fire still burning below it) Abandoned trolley graveyard

We have so many parks here and if you enjoy beaches you will love the big lakes and inland lakes too. We have forests and historic parks like Hartwick Pines and Fayette State Parks. The shipping locks at Sault Saint Marie are impressive and the Tahquamenon Falls. Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park is sublime with views of Lake of the Clouds. Michigan is a big place but don’t miss the Sleeping Bear Dunes and the fun towns in the northwest lower peninsula.

From Wayland Michigan, you have the beautiful area around Holland. You could venture to Lake Michigan in Grand Haven. About an hour and a half Northwesterly you could go to the amusement park, Michigan's Adventure. There is a ton of stuff in downtown Grand Rapids. Southwest from Wayland is South Haven and Saugatuck. Both great places to chill and site see. Or just go for the gusto and head all the way North to the Mackinac Bridge and venture into the Upper Peninsula.

I've got such happy goose bumps watching this! That's my D&L auto sales comment! I am so happy for you. I was originally looking at class B camper vans for our travels. Coach House and Roadtrek were my favorites. My daughter and I ended up with a Class C (2004 Winnebago 24V) that works well for us. My Michigan recommendations include driving across the mighty Mackinaw Bridge to the upper peninsula (be sure to stop for fresh fudge on the other side!), Tahquamenon Falls state park, and searching for Petosky stones. Thank you so much for taking us along for the ride. Safe travels!!

It’s a bit of a side trip and you go into and out of Canada but look at the Lake Superior Circle Tour. Ok it’s a 1300 mile side trip around Lake Superior! You’ll go through Michigan, Ontario, Canada, Minnesota and Wisconsin, hitting small towns and seeing many things along the way. My father was from Duluth and we love the area. Great looking van, I’d still recommend a PPI from a third party so you are 100% sure of what you are buying. Good luck!

Staten island ferry used to cost a quarter in the 80s. You didn’t warn Emma to hang on to her belongings in the movie theater! - not from theft but from leaving things behind! Haha. I’M from NJ, BORN AND RAISED! I transplanted it the south later in life…. I used to do the bus commute from NJ to NYC then train downtown to the WTC. Great news on the lead on the camper. I love how God works. His timing is perfect!!!

Since D&L is in Wayland you should drive up the 31 and stop off in Grand Haven for the largest musical water fountain in the world, and then head up to Traverse City and Charlevoix. After than you want to stop off in Mackinaw Island and the head to the Upper Penisula for the Pictured Rocks and Tahquamenon Falls. When you're the Upper Penisula (UP) you'll be able to get a pasties just like in the UK. To finish off continue your drive west for some more beautiful scenery and exit the state by leaving the UP and entering northern Wisconsin.

I drove a 1997 Doge van for almost a decade (Fulltime in a converted Promaster now). The old Dodge vans are a pretty good platform and parts are easy to find, but they do have some quirks. I'd recommend buying some spare O2 sensors and a replacement ECM and keep both in the van (You can get both on Ebay for about $150). This will likely save you time and money down the road as they are common failure points. Get the U-Joints replaced with some good American made ones that have grease fittings (Not sealed ones) and drain the rear end and have a look at the internals for wear or damage then refill it with a high quality fluid (Royal Purple is a good one). Doing these things now is cheap insurance and should help you avoid the common issues of the that drivetrain.
