Wow. Orange roof and all black exterior??? I'm all for dramatic colors on homes but I'm not sure about this. Home Depot and Halloween come to mind. Clearance sale on orange metal roofing at Home Depot? 😊 Seriously, this might work if you added some accents on the exterior in a complimentary third color?

Born and raised in the upper peninsula. We truly are blessed to be born and raised in such nature and beauty. Those who had been ready to leave the u.p. After graduation are the same that are returning to retire. I work at a local waitress and see people moving to the area desperately wanting to live the cities with the crime and pollution. Congratulations on the A-Frame! My great aunt (my grandma's sister) lived in an A frame on the Mississippi River when I was kid. In February I bought a 950ish sq foot 1 bedroom A-Frame with 8 acres on a large lake in East Texas and it has the same lay-out and I'm doing the same thing, bedroom and bathroom upstairs and I'm going to rip it out to vault the ceiling and put my bedroom in the back of the house, put the bathroom back in the front and the area in the front will be my living room, I'm a single guy, my 3 kids are grown and out of the house so I don't need a dining room, I have one in the house I live in now and it's just a waste of space, I eat in my living room in front of my t.v. so why waste the space. The back of my house faces the lake and I'd like to wake up looking at the lake plus there's a deck back there if I want to eat by or hang out looking at the lake then I'll just go out there through my bedroom. Every time I go down to work on it all the childhood memories of going to Aunt Roni's house for week every summer come back, I call it my happy place, I hope to be done with it by Christmas so I can move down there after the 1st of year, I retired from the military in 2010 and will hit my 15 year mark (minimum years for retirement) in November of this year and I'm going to take it and move from Missouri to Texas and enjoy my retirement.

That’s almost a small river… That is absolutely gold find… It’s a sandy bottom creek You clean the sides of the creek, remove the trees that fallen on it… you put spikes on both sides, attach a rope and you can put inner tubes and still float on the creek while the water goes past you
@NorthofNowhere.

appreciate that man! We felt the same way when we saw it for the first time. Still hard to believe that we got it. When we first got it, I did some research on the differences between brooks, streams, creeks, and rivers, because this would definitely be considered a river in many places. It feels like one. It flows into a larger body of water (Grass River) which then goes to Torch Lake, which is why it's considered a creek. It's the perfect spot for setting up some tubes and floating. You two are braver than I am. I've been looking at properties in Northern Michigan and the U.P. Welcome to Michigan. Keep the wood stove, it's cheap, and it's off grid, your surrounded by trees too.

we're born and raised in michigan! We'd love to keep the wood stove, but this will be a rental and insurance would be through the roof.

Buying an A frame for s rental is the only reason to own one. They are a crap use of space. Viausly very appealing but until you spend alot of time in one there great. I built a gambrel cabin. 20' wide I custom built it my self and the upstairs in that is bad enough. How ever you can still stand up and be 6' in 85% of the up stairs.
@NorthofNowhere.

They certainly are not the best use of space, but you can make the most of it if you're intentional about it. I did almost all of the work myself on the remodel and the complexity that all of the angles add cannot be understated.

I completely disagree. A-frames are the PERFECT first/last home. They are simple to build, cheaper to build because they require less materials to build, which is a huge deal now because of deforresting and when you get alot of bad weather such as snow/ice and rain they are easier to maintain.

Doors swinging to the inside are a big NO NO in northern Michigan. Always have them swing out. Bears can push a door in easily

I hear your concern, but Airbnb is not the main issue with the housing market. Even if every Airbnb property in the U.S. were sold, it wouldn't significantly alleviate the supply problem we have. The real issues are high construction costs, both in labor and materials, and the fact that people aren't selling their existing homes because of high interest rates. Many homeowners are locked into low-rate mortgages, which has created a stalemate in the market. There's no denying the housing market needs help, but Airbnb isn't the root of the problem. There are a few studies showing that if every short term rental was converted into long-term housing, it still wouldn’t solve the broader supply constraints.

Michigan is the greatest state in the nation for more reasons than even an educated person can comprehend, so it's pointless to waste the energy with you. Let's just say here in Michigan we teach our kids not only how to pull together a complete sentence using proper English grammar and spelling, but one that actually makes sense!

@@NorthofNowhere. we did! My grandparents lived on the east side between clam and Alden. Even had the little drive named after them, Maguire Lane. Sadly, my parents sold after they passed.
