Matt, I have two male cats that took down a full grown wild rabbit. We have domesticated chickens and turkeys on our farm as well. The cats know not to mess with them, but I can all but guarantee a feral cat can and will eat the chickens. And cats, as you know being a veterinarian, are crafty and can get through some seemingly impenetrable barriers when there is food on the line. The fact that the feral cat was there by the coop indicates to me that he was not looking out for your chickens' best interests...😅

Not all individuals have the instincts to kill for the sport of it but the 20-30% that seem to enjoy the slaughter kill everything they see. Cats in the wild are basically an invasive species. There is another aspect that may not have been mentioned regarding keeping the sheep on the ranch… Wildland fire fuel mitigation. That property, regardless of what happens with those sheep needs some form of continuous fuel mitigation. The other alternative is to grow your Boer Goat herd from your mansion and as you get your perimeter fencing and cross fencing infrastructure set up… phase out sheep and have an epic herd of Boer Goats that keep all the grass down and leaves up. This is only going to become more important as the resort grows and the number of potential ignition sources grows. It may be a good idea to consult with a couple of experienced Wild land fire professionals regarding strategic fuel breaks and thinning out the Cedar forest… a good ignition with a good wind behind it is not a pretty picture for your particular situation. Best unasked advice I can provide.

Two possible solutions, coz that berm is so steep any topsoil will erode right off it in decent rainfall. 1: The expensive one. Lay rolls of turf over the whole thing, and hope it stays without rain getting underneath and eroding. 2: Lay 3 -5 inches of topsoil over the entire berm with a layer of burlap mesh over the top to prevent erosion. Secure the mesh to the berm with steel pins. You can then throw seed on the berm in late Winter, early Spring and it will stay and grow. I'm assuming landscape suppliers in USA use the mesh. Burlap is the American word. They call it jute mesh here in Australia. Or hessian mesh. Surely it's used in USA for erosion control, like here in Oz. Good luck, sir. I'd use solution No. 2 I did environmental control on civil construction sites for a while. I've seen topsoil, mesh and seed work successfully on steep ground. It's what I'd recommend. I hope you read this. It could save you some dough.
