I want to thank you for giving us all such a delightful series of videos. Your humour, enthusiasm and utterly natural way of explaining your adventures really hold our attention and thoroughly entertain us. Now we want to see you finally equip the boat for deep sea living and keep us fascinated by your life all over the World. I worked on British boats as a Marconi radio officer from 1962 until 1966 but never made it to South America except the Panama Canal , Venezuela and the Caribbean islands of Curacao, Trinidad, Haiti and Jamaica. Then I emigrated to New Zealand, where I qualified as a lifeboatman after delivering a new inter island roll on roll off ferry. That was the Wahine (sadly she sank in a cyclone in 1967 with 53 dead. .. I had left the sea by then) I married and inevitably left the sea for journalism and broadcasting but always remembered my time at sea and exploring this Earth with longing and regret that I could not find time to sail. Now at 78 years of age I envy you your wonderful life ahead and wish you all the best of luck.

Slow is not the word I would use. Well thought out and thoroughly planned as you went through the refit, is the way I would describe what you have done to get the boat where it is today. When you thought it would take a couple months of work has turned out to be a major refit of the boat. The boat is a much better craft now that you have brought all the modifications together. The boat is a complex machine and has many components that need to fit together and work well to make the craft sail well. I congratulate you for all that you have done and the time and expense that went into the refit. She will serve you well at sea and be a intragyral part of your life as blue water sailors. The best to you for 2021.

Hello from Waxhaw, NC.. I have been following you for what seems like years. I have cried and celebrated with you through thick and thin. Finally, you are ready to start sailing. No one will be happier than I to see you steer into the wind and pull your sails up, tack off port or starboard and watch your sails fill, cut the engine, set your sails, then to feel the boat come alive under your feet as she lists slightly as she cuts through the water. There is no feeling like it in the world - oh, that I could do it one more time. Due to circumstances, I sold my boat many years ago and have so missed her - but now I get to enjoy sailing one more time with you - I can't wait. I wish you both every happiness that you so deserve and the best that 2021 can offer you. p.r.morehouse - author

@@OddLifeCrafting Your boom will “lift” when you are downwind sailing. You dont have any chance to hold the boom down. Further there’s a reason why there is more blocks on the sheet. That main sheet with just i block on boom and one on arch wint give you the purchase you need in heavy weather. Make both of the at least double blocks or trebles. Well Engineered No where did I hear engineers were consulted!? If they were they should be able to report on how many foot pounds of force will be applied to the 4 points where the arch fastens to the boat? Welding points are subject to fracture if a force is to great. The arch could break loose injuring anyone in its way. The concept is excellent but the devil is in the details!

I am so happy for both of you. Took me a coupe of days to find the time to watch all of this, but I'm glad I did. Duca, I too wish for a nice new Yanmar engine, slightly more powerful than what is spec'd out for the boat to end up in your engine room shortly. I'm looking forward to seeing it all taken care of and your second splash. You two have been a wonderful example of how to do things above your knowledge, but with a willingness to learn.

"Speed Bump" Well said. I'm pretty sure the music is not there while they are talking, so what makes them think that we would prefer both at the same time.

Its not distracting to me. And its not that overbearing like the constant music found in other KZitem sailing videos.

It's always nice that people can live their adventures thru you and Duca. The confidence you get as your journey goes forward is addictive but necessary to move beyond it. I don't know when you both will ever get back to working on the container project but when you do it will be something special to view. Roberta and Duca you bott are deserving of each other and may you both have a happy New year also.Love you guys be careful and stay safe.

Ducca... With all the nice bright work (stainless) on your boat, get some cans of T-9. Use a soft cloth and spray it with the T-9 and just wipe down all the bright work 1 x a week. This will prevent rust and corrosion while there in the water. Very important at the welded areas... It will always look nice and not rust. Arch looks very nice. Just something so you never have rust. It is a good weekly maintenance tip for you boat. Good luck guys!

Hello dear friends on the sea. i wish you a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I hope you have enjoyed the Christmas, and look forward to jump from the crazy 2020 into the 2021, that i hope will be a better year for all of us. I will have my last check this year at the hospital, and hope that things will be much better next year. I want to use my time to enjoy life with family and friends. I look forward to follow you, living your life on sea, I hope there will be a nice and special journey. I see you do a great job with the boat, and i am happy that you dont take any chances with the boat. I wish you all the best in the new year, and hope you will find a motor-solution. Best wishes and Happy New Year from Jan in Norway

Nice job guys, I’ve been quietly enjoying everything that you are achieving with this rebuild. A great idea to include the option to brace the arch to the deck, which might prove more useful providing bracing out to the sides rather than straight down. Others have already mentioned issues that you will likely have with clearance above the arch, tackle failing and the loss if your mainsheet advantage, but if you haven’t already maybe just try and test out the lateral strength of the arch by throwing the boom out with a bit of force but without any sail/wind load on it and see how much the arch flexes. I’m sure you are already all over it but it’d be good to know how well the arch might be expected to cope with a crash jibe before it happens.....even just how well it’d cope with tacking if the main sheet isn’t controlled and pulled hard in through the tack...?? Good luck to both of you and keep up the enthusiasm and terrific work.

The Best, I love it that people can take their time, well spent I might add, and preform things , do tests and get it right. I loved this episode..It really shows the Americans to slow down...do it right the first, or the second...or even the third time before they weld it shut. I as an American who lives by the sea...and loves it ,( 20 feet above sea level ) takes his time and Loves Your Video's...Rob from Ct.

You go at the speed you feel is right for you. Take it slow and steady, get things done correctly and do't feel pressure. Happy new year to all of you and I hope that one day you will sail to Ireland and we can meet up. Good fortune with the new engine too!

Take your time. :-) Some of us fully enjoy the renovation part; watching something old be made new again, and personalized with such care. That being said we may jump ship if it becomes a sailing channel.

With the music so loud, I can't hear Roberta!!!!! Don't worry about being fast, worry about being SMART. By doing all these things yourself you will know everything about Odd when you are out on the waves, and if something goes wrong, you will know how to fix it. That is SUPER cool. What was really weird about this video was seeing Duca with short hair!!! He looked funny! Well Roberta and Duca, like everyone else, I wish you the best of luck in 2021.... may the breezes always be at your back and may the sun shine down on Odd with a smile. Love you two!!!
