I wrote to NC on the Red Hand Files prior to his Adelaide performance on his Conversations tour . I asked him to play Love Letter for my partner who I had just lost , doubting he’d even read it . Not only did he perform Love Letter but also dedicated it to my Teresa . A truly humane , compassionate man 💔

Nick Cave is an amazing artist. My parents used to play his music (and the Bad Seeds) in the car when I lived in Australia as a kid. His explorations on grief from recent years like the album Ghosteen have been incredibly moving. It's terrible what put him into that space, but hopefully making music and sharing thoughts and feelings provides some catharsis for him. He continues to be brilliant and powerful as a musician and songwriter decades into his career.

I think at all the funerals we attend throughout our lives, we also see our own mortal coil descending into the ground. And, more eloquently than anyone ever, Alex Haley (author of Roots), said: "When someone dies, it's like a library burning to the ground." I love how his lyrics "dance between the lines" and eventually "cross-pollinate". I applaud his creativity and the way it has affected me. I had a nephew that died at 21 years old and it too changed my life and the lives of my family. I now have that intense appreciation for life. Don't know Nick's work and never quite understood how it was I wasn't drawn to him. And still I don't know his work. But loving what he says and how he is in this interview feels like a magnificent way to spend time with him. A thoughtful and generous soul, this is one of the most beautiful takes on loving Jesus, and just such a genteel considered way of being. So much of what he said marries with so many way that I understand things. I wish much of the earthly churches would float away and could be replaced with these ways of thinking. appreciate we all add to it with our ways of being and seeing, but would't it be good to see these thoughts and people like Nick and his word's being taken on by those earthly churches, that people like Nick were quoted in sermons, or part of the murals, or seen as worthy of delivering liturgies to a congregation.

" If you don´t escape, if you allow the suffering to be there, if you are ready to face it, if you are not trying somehow to forget it, then you are different. Suffering is there but just around you; it is not in the center, it is on the periphery. It is impossible for suffering to be in the center; it is not in the nature of things. It is always on the periphery and you are the center. So when you allow it to happen, you don´t escape, you don´t run, you are not in a panic, suddenly you become aware that suffering is there on the periphery as if happening to someone else, not to you, and you are looking at it. A subtle joy spreads all over your being because you have realized one of the basic truths of life, that you are bliss and not suffering."
