People failed to remember something that has happened immediately after the race in Abu Dhabi. When the press conference was happening, Lewis approached Max and had a light-hearted conversation together. Showing that the respect they once had, was still very much present and visible. Sadly this moment didn't get recorded, and is only known to the people who were there. I think the relationship between these two great drivers will stabilize again. Red Bull and Mercedes should both be ashamed for creating this high amount of drama, when most likely the true situation is a lot better than people may think.

To be honest, all the drama and quarrelling was mainly between Toto and Christian, which went all season long. Max and Lewis did an admirable job of keeping it cool in the media throughout this year. It was their bosses who behaved poorly and unsportsmanlike, during and after the race and I am still adamant that their bickering and pleads over the radio to Massi at race control, was the main contributing factor to the Abu Dhabi controversy. Communication for campaigning against penalties due to racing incidents should be prohibited from 2022 onwards, especially if we are to have a more competitive field with more wheel-to-wheel battles than usual. Max and Lewis should recover from the events of 2021 over the winter break, after all, elite sportsmen have the mental capability to not let tough moments get into their heads. Max especially, since he is always so focused on the task at hand during a race weekend.

I don't want to be the one constantly bringing up the Silverstone incident, but I have to say it was that moment, I think, that conflict started because at first both trusted the other to race hard but fair and in that moment Hamilton broke the trust. On top of that he celebrated like he is re-establishing the British empire. Meanwhile Max won his home race cleanly and the celebrations were a minimum.

I still think and hope that Lewis will take an eighth title, but it was great to see another team win, despite the controversy. Can you imagine what an anti-climax it would have been to finish such a fantastic battle behind the safety car? Well done to both drivers, who were head and shoulders above the competition, they both deserved it, but it went Max’s way. The whole season fans were fighting that FIA was erc biased or redbull biased but infact they were always aiming such that both drivers go to abu dhabi on equal points. in jeddah max was driving like a maniac they gave him penalty but that much so he cant go for fastest lap attempt neither he loses position to P3 similar in abu dhabi lewis incident with mazepin would lead to his 10 place grid penalty but they ignored why because they wont get the starting 1-2 start for the title contenders if they do so. same happened in the last lap they couldve restarted with lapped cars in between as they didnt have time but only those lapped cars were allowed to overtake that were between lewis and max so that they can get a final lap action. Are we really surprised it got this bad? Hamilton has shown in the past he can't really handle a decent title challenge. Sure, he talks the right talk, but in the end he is at least as selfish as any other driver. Just listen to his openly hostile team radios whenever he feels he is losing out. And Verstappen is a racer who takes a dominant position in any fight. He sets the rules of engagement and stays within the limits he sets, but in doing so he leaves little room for the other driver to step over the limits. This is why Silverstone went so bad. Hamilton felt he was wronged in the sprint race (and the races before that), because he felt that Verstappen had dictated the limits for their fights (which he had done). Hamilton was out of control and he can't handle that. Since he wasn't able to simply take back the control and dictate the rules of engagement himself he decided to not follow the limits that Verstappen laid down. And since Verstappen doesn't allow room for this they collided.

Good video. Silverstone was the flashpoint which made the championship dirty. Max got doubly penalized -- once for no points and then again for a new engine. If the British stewards found Hamilton to be "predominantly at fault" then he should've had a stop-go penalty, effectively being put out of the points just like the car he took out. After that had Hamilton driven a brilliant recovery drive up to 3rd or 4th (which he is very capable of), it'd have been fun to watch and in my opinion, fair. Overall the FIA has to rethink penalties, rules, inconsistent enforcement of the rules, and favouritism (don't forget the hush hush 2019 Ferrari engine deal). So basically all the same issues FIA had in the '80s. Fans will threaten to stop watching and then come back to the sport because even though the new engines sound like a badly souped-up supra, we all love the sport and the thrill of the world's fastest cars going around race tracks designed by Tilke in a procession. It's like the ex I keep taking back despite knowing how toxic she gets.
@sergioccs74

I think Hamilton needed a harsher penalty for that crash honestly. But I also acknowledged that it is not a simple issue, like a 10 second penalty effectively puts out of contention most cars on the grid, while the mercedes can have a 25 grid place penalty (Brazil GP) and still come out first. Like what I'm trying to say is that one reason penalties didn't work this season is because the RB and Mercs could basically nullify them with pace, this, while it is no fault of the stewards or of the drivers.. begs the question of how can you truly punish them in the future?

If the car manages to race back into points or victory, great job. Points well earned. At the end of the day, it's very rare that a driver is 100% at fault for an incident. So the penalty should ensure that it's reasonably difficult for a team to gain points. Though it may not be entirely impossible for a team like Mercedes.

At Interlagos, this time it was Max' fault, yet the appropriate penalty wouldn't have changed a thing, Ham was always gonna pass him such was the pace difference. At Abu Dhabi first lap turn 6 the stewards made up for their inconsequential mistake at Interlagos... giving the advantage to Ham unfairly,;who was yet again in a rocket ship compared to Red Bull. Then the last safety car incident. If everything before Abu Dhabi was fair(or only the punishment at Silverstone was fair), Max should have entered the last race with a guaranteed champiionship victory if he finished 2nd at the worst. So whatever shenanigans they pulled off in the last 5 laps is only to the stewards and Masi's embarrassment. Max deserved it anyway. So I can totally understand Adrian Newey's feelings even after Max winning the championship. Sincerely, I'm a Seb fan, am neutral to Max and I don't like Lewis' character much(no one can deny his talent).

[At Silverstone, intentional or not it was clearly Hamilton's fault and he wasn't punished enough. At Monza it was a racing incident] A little bit of honesty would be appreciated. Whenever two parties are to blame and one is more to blame FIA applies the exact same penalty every time. IF the penalty can be given during the race, 5 seconds, if not, next race 3 places on the grid. When ONLY 1 driver is to blame it becomes 10 seconds or more or 5 places or more. From that alone you can work out BOTH were to blame for Silverstone and BOTH were to blame for Monza. For Silverstone it was mainly Lewis, for Monza it was mainly Max. Compare that to the 5 place grid penalty Bottas received for Hungary, he was solely to blame. You could also have read this in FIA decission as they are publicized.

Hamilton started the season with a win, and from then on the momentum shifted more and more to Verstappen. Before Silverstone Verstappen had a 32 point lead. Something had to give. That's why Hamilton was so siked up to win. He got beaten in the sprint qualifying, that annoyed him. So he was determined to get Verstappen in the race. Verstappen hadn't anticipated such ferocity from Hamilton, and he claimed copse, to lead the race, and it never crossed his mind that Hamilton would try that over ambitious move. It could've cost Hamilton the race, it could've knocked them both out. Unfortunately for Verstappen he ended with a massive impact in the tires, and Hamilton got to get his car fixed. Now here's where the mind games come in. To show he felt he done nothing wrong, Hamilton made a spectacle out of his win. The shots of him with the British flag were very over the top, and it was a way for Hamilton to say, screw you Max, you're not going to humiliate me, I'll do it to you. It had a short effect on Verstappen. He's sitting there with a sore head and body. His vision blurry, seeing his rival celebrating an unfair win. So that changed his perception of Hamilton. In the rest of the season, Toto Wolff has made an arse out of himself so many times, so many contradictions, using a different stand whenever it suited them, that Verstappen vowed never to work for Mercedes. I'm so glad Karma was served, and Verstappen won the title. 😊

After reading your analysis of Silverstone crash, I have no option but to believe that you are a new Auto sports fan. The correct way of wheel to wheel racing at that kinda speed is almost common sense among racing drivers. It was more or less like , Max didn’t fear the consequences of ‘Jink and dive ‘ and Ham made understeer mistake by braking late. FIA favored both drivers almost equally and it was not fair to the other drivers . Penalties they got were almost meaningless and didn’t affect points at all. “Let them race”. was the very comment that symbolizes many different kinds of political and commercial intentions of FIA. Merc and RB are 2 of 3 giants that feed F1. Plus Ham is a British and Max is the most favored driver by the fans. It explains everything. But everyone knew that F1 was dying to see the new champ who will end the boringness of Merc dominance. Ppl love underdog stories.

You're so misguided. How many times did Hamilton give way to Verstappen to avoid a crash? At least 5 or 6 times, then the one time he doesn't give way to Verstappen's aggressive driving, they crash (Silverstone). To me, it shows Verstappen drives over the limit & he doesn't know how to overtake or defend against rivals without causing collisions. Brazil, Imola, Spain, Italy, Abu Dhabi...the list of Verstappen almost causing an accident is endless!

That's not karma. Karma is comeuppance by nature, not with human interference from Masi at Abu Dhabi. Max has been a reckless driver all season who thinks it's his birthright to have other drivers make way for him anytime... which Lewis and other drivers did gave way many times to avoid a crash. Any of those close calls would've ended in unnecessary crashes or worse injuries or death. At Silverstone, Lewis driving in his home turf didn't take the bluff and stood his ground. The root cause was the unfair decision from the stewards on the Silverstone incident, had Hamilton got disqualified or something more harsh than a mere 10s time penalty (which was a fucking joke punishment for eliminating a championship title rival), Max wouldn't have acted so aggressively in Monza and so on.. Also the torpedo Bottas made it even worse. Glad Max won in the end, because by the stats itself, he is the deserving championship winner.

If it really was a brake test they would have penalized Max a lot harder. Max was found to be predominantly to blame according to the stewards. The actual problem in my view was the confusion, Max was told to let Lewis pass and hence slowed down to let Lewis by. Lewis on the other hand wasn't told that Max would let him pass so he stayed behind Max and also slowed down while he should have stayed on the racing line and pass Max. The fact that Lewis did not pass Max obviously added to the confusion of Max who was waiting there for Lewis to pass, he did not know that Lewis wasn't told to pass Max.

@@42earthling the data from his car proved it. Yes, there was confusion during that abomination of a “race” but they were going to Abu Dhabi level regardless. The entire beginning of the season was basically Max aggressively going for moves and Lewis taking avoiding action every time, and in that one circumstance Lewis did basically the exact same thing back. If you count the points lost at Baku, Silverstone, and Hungary in which none were the fault of Verstappen but of a blown tire and 2 Mercedes punts. Well, then the season isn't even close. For all the "torpedo" like actions Hamilton fans say, it never hurt Hamilton in the race where he would've scored 0 points or had too much damage to recover.
