At this point you guys should really build the slant 6. There's a bunch of speed parts for them, and the prices of things like rods etc are pretty reasonable. The stock pistons in these engines can actually take a lot of boost. The top ring land is thick AF. Add some ring gap and throw a set of rods in it. Guarantee you guys can make 350hp/450tq at the wheels with a cam and valve spring upgrade and some more boost.

They definitely hit the peak of what they could do with the slanty boosted its breathing pretty hard to make maybe 220 horsepower lol barb said 5000 pounds that’s a pipe dream the thing maybe weighs 4000 pounds with both guys in it it’s just a small displacement motor giving all shes got. I’d call it a win if you guys did this with a 292 Chevy or a 300 ford you would definitely have had more monstrous power but that little 6 banger is beating it’s heart out and it’s pumped out some great content. Deserves a build. Call up Steve dulcich he’ll know how to get some good numbers out of it (probably head work)

@theeoddments960 They definitely haven't hit the peak of what they can do with that engine... There's Bonneville guys who spin these things to 7500rpm and make north of 500hp. The thing is bone stock other than the turbo. Of course it's breathing hard to make 220..

He mainly buys old cars trucks that have been sitting for many years and tries to get them up and running & he keeps the ones he like & sells the others off to keep his shop open and to be able to buy more cars and to keep pushing out KZitem content. He has a springer spaniel dog he named Duff and the dog loves to riding in these cars trucks he buys to a point that he cant say go for a ( r i d e) because the dog knows what that means & he gets excited . He was recently building a SBC with a blower on it to put in one of his old cars that came out of a ex drag car but found out it had damaged pistons from something it sucked in through the blower before he bought the car but very little damage was done to the rotors inside of the blower once taken apart but haven't seen him lately working in the engine .

Until you get a real transmission jack, you can do the old school trick of getting two long bolts to fit the bellhousing (4-6 inches, longer is better) with only about the first inch threaded. Cut the head off the bolt and taper the ends so it aligns with the transmission holes easier. If you want to get fancy, you can cut a screwdriver slot into the end. Use them as guide pins to put the transmission on. It will even make it easier to align the input shaft in through the clutch plates and into the pilot bushing without having to muscle the transmission into place at the same time. Thread in the two of the transmission bolts and tighten down. Then you can remove the guide pins and put in the remaining two transmission bolts. You can do this with automatic transmissions also, just use shorter bolts.

Hey Tony, I just got done re-watching one of my favorite episodes of Roadkill, the one where you and Finnegan ran Drag Week. I'd always liked you, but that episode was where I became a Tony Angelo fan for life. The way you crawled under that car, manhandled that transmission, rebuilt it on a card table and jammed it back in there is one of the most legit things I've ever seen. In the interview at the end of the show, Finnegan said he couldn't have won it without you, and he was right. Your calm positive presence kept him from getting worked up when things went wrong. You couldn't ask for a better crew chief! With over 300K subscribers, it sure looks like your gamble with Stay Tuned is working out, and I'm really glad it is. Now if you'd just reveal what show "We're gonna lose the shop!" is about!

The problem with negative pressure on the compressor side is that the oil pulled through the seals is going to go in the charge air with the fuel. Oil in your fuel charge massively lowers the octane rating. That plus boost means it’ll ping its head off possibly literally. Check your plugs and think about seeing how cheap that seal the VW tragics is to do. I wanna see this thing go faster so it’s gotta stay healthy!
@nerd1000ify
2 ай бұрын
A rough rule of thumb is that you can approximate the mixing octane rating of oil as 0. So if the fuel consumption:oil consumption ratio is 9:1, you would lose about 10% of your fuel octane. 100 octane race fuel would drop to about 90 octane, for example.

I wish I could send you guys an aluminum 2bbl or Clifford 4bbl intake for that slant and Holley Sniper EFI or some sort of TBI blowthrough, a cam, high flow exhaust manifold, electronic ignition and electronic wastegate so you could nerf the boost by gear and increase the boost and timing upstairs past the TQ spike to allow more peak power and increase the rpm range of the engine a bit. I bet it could handle 300-350whp if it was able to be tuned perfect with a few mods to help the baseline power. I suppose it's not worth it so much since a V8 swap is so easy at a certain point in comparison. A stroked out LA or B block does sort of just make more sense. If any Aussie viewers could send a Hemi 6 from down under that would be sick...nobody on YT in the USA has built one yet.

I ran my slant without one for 2 years and when I finally hooked it up it made a huge difference with oil consumption and power and made the engine a whole lot healthier. Could just hook it up to the piping under the carb if the doesn’t have a pcv port

The video is easier to watch if you fast forward through the ads and music, lol Those are great trucks, I have a few, a 225, a 318, and a 360. Those OD 4spds are tough as nails, the only downside is the gap between 3rd and 4th. My '81 shortbed stepside is lowered and has modified geometry with the Van lower control arms and a Jeep TJ tierod flip kit to eliminate most of the bumpsteer and camber gain. You can make those trucks handle so much better with that and some stock anti sway bars. I've been creeping ever closer to turboing the Slant in my truck, after watching the last episode I just ordered the turbo and am going to make it whistle. Thanks for showing us old guys how to just jump in and make with the turbo scene

To get around issues with the turbo's dynamic seal, you fit a throttle body to the manifold where the carb once mounted and connect it with either a cable or linkage to the carb..this then acts as a vacuum break and the turbo is no longer affected by the off throttle vacuum and will no longer leak oil...I like to use LS throttle bodies as they are the most available.
