Were you going to keep him if the line didnt break? I love skyway but most of the time the shrimp only catch small bait fish. Good Job Bro!! , maybe i could catch you down there sometime.

Sometimes we do yeah. We even give left over loins of shark meat to the families

The idea is to use those small baitfish that you catch for live bait!

Sometimes the fish are smart enough to to head straight towards the bridge to cut the line with the pilings to escape. So we pull the fish in at different spots to avoid the line rubbing on any structure

Why fish for something that is too big to land? I have a portable underwater light that we have deployed at the Skyway at night. The very first night we used it, it attracted so much bait it was unbelievable. UNTIL the Tarpon showed up! The bait disappeared and there was 10-12 Tarpon hanging in the light all night. We were teasing them with NLBN baits for a while but they started getting faster and more aggressive, so we left them alone. They last thing we wanted to do was hook them. Then what? Yeah, we could fight them for a bit, but the end result would have meant losing our baits, and the Tarpon swimming around with a bait in his mouth with a heavy leader attached for who knows how long. I just don't see the point! I'm all for fishing for giants, but do it where they can be landed safely, get some pics and release. If you want to keep something to eat, that's cool too, if it's edible. But don't try to catch something that can't be properly released. I realize that these days us landlubbers have less and less options every year, but the beaches at night is still a great place to catch giant sharks!

Dude you act like I got control of what size fish picks up my bait. At the skyway pier we do our best to work with what we got like walking all the way down to release big fish even when I see no one else do it including tarpon fisherman. I live on that bridge fishing that same spot and see no one else walking their fish down to the end like me and my squad. Trust me that massive shark is gunna be fine with a 10/0 Mustad biodegradable hook in its mouth and will probably get caught again by me since I pretty much live here. I served my country in the Marines with dreams of fishing everyday to cope with service connected mental illness so leave me alone. That is the only way to release big shark on that pier and we only cut wire when it’s necessary, we will always put our lives first before the shark. ALWAYS. For all we know that sharks tail could’ve knocked someone out in one swing. You guys can say what you want as you have the right to do so, but you weren’t there when the decision was made to cut the wire nor was I. I’ve been fishing everyday living in my car on that south side pier and have seen no one walk their shark down like our squad so I Know all them tarpon problems aren’t coming from us. We’re a Shark Fishing Sqaud. We dont go after tarpon sir so your barking at the wrong tree. I shark fish in other areas too but it’s challenging finding veteran friends in the civilian world so I go to the skyway pier to fish with my buddy Steve who is also a Veteran and he runs the Food Truck on the south end. So please you guys let us be, we got our shark fishing licenses, FWC undercover agents check in on us randomly, we both served, we’re not bad people, and I’m sure my buddy Steve would have done that same process over again as we usually hand releases them like you see in my other videos. (He’s an Army vet 03-07 deployed in Iraq) I understand everyone’s concern for the sharks and i understand that cutting the wire to release isn’t ideal but I’m not putting my life in extra danger and neither will anyone else so that’s why we the people voted and that’s the law to have wire cutters in case for situations like that. And honestly if a female can wear facials piercing and be fine living with it then I think an 8 all muscle shark will be fine with a biodegradable Mustad hook. Does that answer your question?

@@OnlyFishingKZitem @OnlyFishingKZitem First of all, I know you probably hear it all the time, but I REALLY do appreciate your service! Bro, maybe I did come on a bit strong, but It wasn't my intention to put you guys down or judge you. I use to shark fish for years, just not from a bridge or pier. And since I never fished for anything from a pier or bridge that was too large to get in a bridge net, I wasn't able to see the point, but that's for me personally. I wasn't telling you to refrain from doing it, or calling you names for doing it. I had no idea that you fish close enough to shore to get down there, I think that's great! I wasn't "acting like you had control over what takes your bait." Though I DO believe you do have some control! I think you said that only because you were fired up! lol You and I both know what will take a big chunk of a Cownosed Ray! But it doesn't matter, your point was well made, and taken. I just thought that comparably you'd get better content, fishing, landing, pics, and releasing would be easier from a beach like we did. But since you are so dedicated that you practically live in your car there and have your method down pat, and seem to have the sharks best interest at heart. I say, more power to you! Good Luck

You’re right , I was fired up. I’m quick tempered and still learning not to scream at people through therapy. I work on it everyday and learn to get better at it. I respect you for pointing it out. Have a good day sir

@@OnlyFishingKZitem It's all good bro. Fishing is good therapy too as long as you don't have people like me getting you fired up! 😉
