Hey Robby, from one old mechanic to another, tell Dinner the best way to put bike grips or motorcycle grips in is to spray a little hair spray into them and quickly slide them on. Easy Peasy on they go and then the hair spray sets and they stay put till you put the air to them to break them loose to take them off again. There you have it. Give it a try and let me know what you think. Love the build, you guys are doing an amazing job!!! Can't wait to see Ed's face. Steve G.

Just use antiseize when you’re using stainless to avoid galling. Hopefully you didn’t use any black oxide coated fasteners, they’ll just rust immediately.
@Skinflaps_Meatslapper
2 жыл бұрын
Using antiseize on stainless is ineffective for any long term use, and it will wash off the threads in short order leaving you with bare stainless to gall up. You might get a few weeks out of that antiseize before it's gone or doesn't work, if you're lucky. Stainless steel fasteners should only be used in situations where anti-corrosion is an absolute necessity, and they should be treated as one time use hardware. You torque it down and it stays there until you cut or grind or snap it off. It's a terrible material to make threaded fasteners from, it's heavier and considerably weaker than steel fasteners, so it's a necessary evil when dealing with corrosive environments. Titanium is a better material all around, it has about the same strength as stainless dimensionally, it's lighter, has better corrosion resistance due to sacrificial surface oxides, and not as likely to gall.
@masondegaulle5731
2 жыл бұрын
@@Skinflaps_Meatslapper There are tricks to keeping the anti-seize in/water out, but for me it's the strength. 304 & 316 doesn't come anywhere near the strength of basic 8.8 fasteners. Easy enough to rust proof the fastener heads or change them out as required.
@SuperAWaC
2 жыл бұрын
@@Skinflaps_Meatslapper In demanding environments where a lot of water is happening, you'd use 17-4 or 18-8 nitrided or chromed fasteners with tef-gel or a similar product. In slightly less demanding environments you'd just use 17-4 or 18-8 fasteners with either antisieze or tef-gel. Stainless steel fasteners are only "one time use" if you don't know what you are doing. Just because you don't know the correct way to do something, doesn't mean there isn't a correct way to do it. There is no need to spec high tensile fasteners unless you actually need it. You want to use the lowest "strength" fasteners possible that still fall above your designed safety factor.
