I get shocked when some African creators visited Brazil, Cuba, Colombia etc just for the fun of it without dishing out the historical and educational aspects that will benefit Africans and African descendants. I'm not saying it's a must and maybe some of those people ain't just into that aspect of Africanism or know much of the history, but i feel as Africans we have a duty, cos there's a narrative out there by some forces against us, especially the supremacists trying everything to keep the disconnect between Africa and it's descendants in the new world. Wode Maya is a blessing to this generation and posterity will judge him for eternity.

Allow this Jamaican to speak on behalf of AA. Being a minority in an environment that judges you, and constantly invent ways to ridicule your speech and culture. Not to mention demand that in order to succeed and progress, you must conform to strange and weird majority standards. In those circumstances, I think it's going to be difficult to retain the ways of your ancestors. Google the term 'Jim Crow', and please try to read about 'red lining', about strange fruit hanging from Poplar trees in the south, then, you MIGHT begin to understand our AA family's struggle to stay alive, let alone retain practice of their ancestor's customs. Hope I'm making sense. Our AA family needs our support, NOT our ridicule.

@markagyei3219 You should not compare African desendants of the enslaved. Each area where they were taken to their experience was different. Many Africans in the west have maintained a lot of the culture that they brought with them .Many Sfricans on the continent don't even pray in their own languages.I suggest that you do some more research on the brutality of the transatlantic human trading and expand your knowledge.

Correct. Many don't realise this. Cacao was used by the native Americans for all sorts. It was brought to West Africans during the trans Atlantic slave period. The opposite was palm oil, which is native to the Niger delta regiin of Nigeria and was taken over to the Americas. We live and learn.

I think she is trying to refer it being imported from Ghana. Not that it’s original from Ghana. Cocoa is much cheaper to get from Africa. Sadly most coming from exploiting the farmers. Cassava is also original from South America, a traditional crop from Brazilian natives, that was also taken to Africa by the Portuguese in colonial times. In Brazil it has different names depending on the region, that were inherited from different Amerindian tribes: Mandioca, Aipim, and Macaxeira are the most common, but there are more names for the same plant. Actually there are several African habits that were inherited from Brazil, taken to Africa by the Portuguese.

Maya, you never disappoint your audience or followers. This is another mind blowing educational and historical video that you can't learn in the classroom, but we were able to learn more through your Lens on the similarities of way of living, despite problems our brothers and sisters faced in the new world, they still stand tall by keeping African tradition alive.God bless you abundantly for what you do for Mama Africa. Great work and keep connecting our brothers and sisters in the Americas. This trip you embarked on should not have been necessary if African Head of States have agreed with Dr.Kwame Nkrumah in Ethiopia in 1963, for Africa to unite as one country. Because, if they have agreed in my opinion, Africa continent would have been developed with the abundant of natural resources the Almighty God endowed in the continent by adding value to the resources; through this, development will fostered, people in the Americas would have been able to discover where their ancestor came from and would try to reconnect to their roots or land. The Grace of Almighty God will keep you to live for a long time for you to enjoy the fruit of your hard labor with your family.Amen!!!

@WODEMAYA I cant wait for you to visit Jamaica. If you go to the market, the fruit at 15:41 is called noni. We use it as medicine. You'll see so much similarities between Jamaica and Brazil. I went there last year and it reminded me so much of home. It's like Jamaica just bigger. You'll see so much of the same foods here as you would see in Brazil and Accra. The market you need to go to is Coronation Market in downtown Kingston. But I also think you should spend a lot of time outside of Kingston. I might be biased but the countryside is rich in culture and history and that's something you don't always see about Jamaica. We're a big tourist destination but we're more than sand, sea and sun. There's really so many stories to tell but know that you will feel more connected to the rock. I have watched so many of your videos and I feel a closer connection between Africans at home and abroad. Thanks for making Africa closer. We're more alike than we are different. PS. Visit the Glistening Waters in Trelawny. It's one of 6 luminous bodies of water in the world. Enjoy Jamaica 🇯🇲💜

Cassava or maniok is indigenous to South America, and it was brought into Africa by the Portuguese. Cocoa is not from Ghana to Portugal but rather the way around. Cocoa or cacao is also indigenous to South America. Cocoa came from Fernadopo - a Portuguese colony which is now Equatorial Guinea .

Do more about the histories you put up here. We can give the nationalities you mentioned... the botanical names cum colonization of those African natural seeds....but the reality is...they are African seeds.

Wode Maya you forgot Haiti, it is full blown Africa in the Caribbean. You should visit the North East ( Ouanaminthe ) where the people are building a Canal, contesting by the Dominican Republic. I think this could be a great show Thank you for your great works.
