I love it in Mexico... so beautiful, cheap, and good food. However, there's something that keeps me from ever living in Mexico is the violence, gangs, drug cartels. Southeast Asia is like 100x safer than Mexico. Most of the crimes if there are any are petty crimes like purse snatching. YOu can walk at night without any worries whereas in Mexico, I was scared to venture out even in the daytime alone in certain parts of each cities.

Hello Lloyd and Mandy. So sorry that the Orient did not work out as u needed. Actually Thailand has no more mask mandates, and has well relaxed. And, from what I have been seeing regarding cannabis, it is very easy and with lots of good dispensaries. The only glitch is the length of time that is allowed. But, that could be changing soon as they are working on a digital nomad visa allowing a year. We shall, hopefully soon see what the details are. I am leaving Zagreb and going to Bangkok next week for 2 months. We spent 7 months in Playa del Carmen from Winter of '20 til summer of '21. If we were to return it would be inland as we were tired of the constant mold that the high humidity has. Be sure and check out Puerto Morelos just up the beach from Playa. That would be a better choice for us if we went back to that area. Super chill and sweet. But, do be alert for gang activity because it is going strong there. Be alert on the beaches as there have been jet skies with gangsters on the hit for their targets. Not meaning to scare u. It is just reality. You will love the cenotes, the Mexican people, the food and so much beautiful nature. Part of my heart is in Mexico and has been for 40 years. Bueno Swelte and I will look forward to ur experiences.

When we first went to Cancun thirty years ago playa was not a thing. It was developed because Cancun was too crowded and the expansion led to developing the corridor from Cancun towards Tulum. We stopped in a fishing village with a beach and the kids went swimming. I noticed a cement block building going up a half mile away not realizing that the ruination of the area by tourists from the US and Canada had begun. I never returned to this area of Mexico again. The Baja of Los Cabos is much better but I think it’ll eventually become like Cancun/playa. It’s actually quite depressing.

The problem is that most digital nomads hope to find the perfect place. Or worst, western people coming to Asia expecting to live the same as back home. This expectation is completely wrong. Your statement saying dogs are not allowed in Bali is not accurate. I have several friends who brought their pets, either Bali or Java, and there was only quarantine needed. I left my home country Brazil in Feb 2008 to work in a footwear company. I was 28 years old and been working 14 years at the same company in Brazil It was my first trip abroad and no English. Adapted to a totally different culture, food, and way of life. It took few months to adapt but was possible and worth it as I met my wife there. Later in 2018 I moved to Pakistan and worked there for 16 months and since my Indonesian wife struggled to find a job, I decided to accept a job offer in HCMC, Vietnam. That was December 2019. Since January 2020 we now live in our 3rd different country. Bottom line is that in each of the 4 different countries (Brazil, Indonesia, Pakistan & Vietnam) I could easily live in any of them. Besides, if there will be a 5t, 6th country, I am sure is possible to adapt.

Thanks for sharing. I understand that you want freedom from masks, vaccination regulations etc. Here in Mindanao provinces, nobody tells you to wear a mask at the beach, even though you will need it when entering a mall. Even though mask mandates are still in effect, it seems that it is slowly going back to normal. When I go to the far province, in the middle of nowhere, nobody use face diapers there. I am upset about regulations, control and vaccine mandates here really. We were even locked inside the home for periods, on so called NO MOVEMENT Sundays. There were also liquor bans, meaning you could not even get a beer. Good luck in Mexico, I wish you great success, and hopefully you can bring your dog there some day.

Aside from the mask situation (uh, mask on a freakin' beach? Get real!), I thought the reasons given still won't balance out the fact that South America in general is not safe for tourists. I mean, you may not like the mask situation, the dog situation, easy access to drugs, etc., but those things don't compare to the risk you'll take with your lives going there. Your chances of getting kidnapped/killed are way higher there than SE Asia (well, the Philippines does do that, too). My friend's uncle was killed in a kidnapping gone wrong last year in Mexico.

Mexico is awesome but the same probs exist for your dog both heat and street dogs r serious issues.... no es bueno para su perro... masks and hand cleaning still common as well as temp stations... definitely head to Bacalar... best place in that part of Mexico!

Never book a cheap place if you arrive at midnight, just a hotel with 24 hour reception.😉

I can totally understand and support your opinions. I personally think the (rediculous) mask and v. card things need to stop right away. It's not even working. I hope you guys have a great time in Mexico.

I've been a digital nomad in SE Asia for about 5-years, working nights and my sleep schedule is a mess. Being in Mexico, just for the US time zone would be awesome. I wish you both much success there!

Thailand us now open more than ever before no masks you left to early, and if you got a extended visa and a cheap condo life would be a cheaper life and I think you missed 3 quarters of Thailand ,instead of hotels air b and bs are better, half the price if on month or more stays, sorry guys you missed out

We haven’t been forced to wear masks in Australia for a long time (once they got the community vaccinated the masks became an optional choice). Covid is still having quite an impact on the number of people requiring hospitalisation to treat - as there’s no more lockdowns so more of the community are contracting covid.

Road to 50k. Then to 100k. It’s too early to settle outside your country. The foreigners living in the Phils are retirees. They are settling in Subic or Dumaguete.

Mushroom is better than mj in many ways especially if you live somewhere with good sceneries people also micro dose it for creativity. Would love to visit Jamaica and Brazil where it's legal it's also legal in some parts in Mexico
