Sunday 12:30pm I arrived at the barn, got sriracha from the field, noticed he was standing off by himself (odd for him) brought him inside to do his hoof care and apply mtg for the upcoming snow we were getting. 1:30pm noticed he would not take his favorite treats. Continued to try other things because it is very unlike him to not take his favorite treats. 230-3ish informed Dawn I thought something was going on with him, he would not eat his evening grain or drink water. Walked him around the arena for over an hour in case of colic. Brought him back inside and we took his temperature, 104. Immediately called the vet, had blood work done and antibiotics and banamine administered. I will let the follow up wait until the next video for Joel to go over but wanted to go into a bit more detail about the discovery and process the day it happened. 🙂

Such a scary time when an animal won’t eat his favourite treat thank you for adding the detail it’s good for anyone else to learn these things that can be done when unsure what might be happening. Experience is so important during times like this. I pray he will be okay and won’t have any lasting disease like Lyme. Hopefully it was a tooth abscess or just a virus. Praying but was so reassured to see all the grain and hay gone from his stall. 🥰❤️🙏🏻🇨🇦

I grew up riding English saddle, to be expected as I was born there lol but I always rode western at my dad's farm in florida. I think both are great for different reasons. I think there is alot of flexibility with western saddles but with all the straps they take longer to put on. For comfort I'm going to say western. When I was alot younger and I did 3 day eventing I was always in English saddle. I think there is alot of grace and elegance to the English riding. I'm not sure you really needed all this but alot of people don't really know the differences especially if they haven't been around horses. But I was on horses before I could walk so I think I have a good perspective.

Tip on the big squares...if you don't want them to explode all over when you open them...cut 2 strings leave the rest on. Take the 2 and tie them end to end. Slip them under the remaining strings and place at the point you want hay. Take the strings around the back of the bale and tie. Cut the remaining strings. This keeps part of the bale contained. I fed 1800 lb squares one winter and this kept me from having a huge mess.

However, I do love watching horse events and when I watch, I watch both English and western riding. I love watching the riders do both show jumping and dressage just as much as I love watching barrel racing. But my favorite events to watch are reining and cutting. I just love watching a horse being put through their paces. They are truly brilliant animals.

Hey, Joel 👋 In the UK dairy cows are in the sheds throughout the late fall, winter and early spring time...they can develope hoof issues like rot and pressure points along the white ring. Vets glue on rubber and compound blocks to the hoofs to relieve pain in the cow. It is supposed to be like one of the inserts humans wear in shoes to help with plantar fasciitis. Do horses have such things available to them when they develope the same issues? Or is it expected the problem fixes itself on its own. Great and funny video today. Gavin is such a hoot and you are a natural teacher infront of the camera with an excellent personality! Take care and all the best from the UK 🇬🇧.

Several of the others who had horses boarded where we were, rode english and a couple even did dressage. Those were some of the best days in this Grammy’s life. Some of the other girls are still my friends to this day. We absolutely love your enthusiasm and seeing your horses. I’d be very interested in hearing about the horses, are they all yours or are they boarded, what types of breeds are there? Do you ever ride? I also love how the horses know which stall is theirs.
