What sounds like birds is an effect that they discovered accidentally when Dave’s guitar was plugged into his Crybaby Wah pedal backwards. When he turns up the volume on the guitar the pedal creates a self-generating feedback loop. Once it is plugged in, all he needs to do is adjust the volume on the guitar. He isn’t fretting or playing any notes, it’s the effects pedal that creates that sound.

The 1971 studio version of Echoes and the David Gilmour/Richard Wright 2006 live version from Gdańsk Poland: both versions are performed in entirety, meaning no “part 1”or “part 2”). Even if you don’t do a reaction, I recommend enjoying these 2 other versions of Echoes.

I actually visited the amphitheater in Pompeii, Italy as a kid ... It's something else to see a historical ruins of a city from 2000 years ago, but amazing how the Romans designed and built a structure that is still the blueprint for stadiums today. Pink Floyd in 1972 were moderately successful when this was filmed on their tour for 'Obscured by clouds' (I believe)... the song was from their 1971 album 'Meddle'... This was just 1 year before 'Dark side of the Moon' was released in 1973 and exploded in popularity. When Pink Floyd first started in the 60's, their founding guitarist/ vocalist Syd Barrett could write catchy singles like 'See Emily play' ... 'Arnold Layne'... 'Jugband blues'... But Barrett's mental decline led to him being ousted by 1968 (He could not perform coherently nor remember the songs he was writing) David Gilmour replaced Syd Barrett in Pink Floyd, but neither he nor the other members were gifted songwriters like Barrett... They attempted to write singles for Pink Floyd in the 60's, but they were not as good and failed to have a commercial impact. As a result, Pink Floyd attempted to experiment w/ a new set of musical parameters and craft a new identity... At first, the band's efforts were rather unusual but they finally were able to generate fanfare w/ albums like 'Atom heart mother'... and 'Meddle' in the early 70's. They hit the jackpot in 1973 w/ 'Dark side of the Moon'... and dominated the rest of the 70's w/ albums like 'Wish you were here' ... 'Animals' ... and 'The Wall'.

Travis Scott’s “Circus Maximus” (can be found here on the tube) is a movie/musical based off of his recent album “UTOPIA” he performs a handful of songs in that very same arena in Pompeii.. most definitely inspired by Pink Floyd. All the way down to the setup. Great reaction! 🙌

Finally! Someone who doesn't stop a song mid-stream, which breaks the mood and cohesion of a piece of music. I would rather a short comment here and there, rather than pausing a song - especially one such as this! Thank you! Good reaction and insight - Pink Floyd is obviously a band for you. However, maybe have the lyrics readily available to you? Roger Waters is a master wordsmith, and the lyrics go so well with the mood of the music. I would argue that Mr. Waters' lyrics are another level of the actual sound of their music.

Well done maddy on your 60k. You deserve every single sub. Every time I see those old WEM amps and speakers I get a nasal flashback of the smell of old amps being pushed to their limits. Valve amps still have that great analog, dusty and hot moving parts smell of 70s Tech.

For me, "Echoes" is Pink Floyd's best track. I really love the album they recorded this song for, "Meddle". "Dark Side of the Moon" was the follow-up so "Meddle" got lost in the shuffle but it's up there with the best of their work. Just as Stevie Wonder's '71 album "Where I'm Comin' From" was a sign of where his music would go in the 1970s, "Meddle" also signaled the run of classic albums that Floyd would release through the remainder of the decade. A fun aside: I don't know if Floyd intended this (probably not), but the length of "Echoes" is the same length as the "Jupiter and Beyond the Infinite" sequence in Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey". kzitem.info/news/bejne/06Rts6GJbKiSrYo

I do not know if anyone other than Pink Floyd or David Gilmour have played Pompeii. David was there in 2016 as well. It was renovated a bit by then and there were people watching the concert then. Gilmour no longer plays this song since the passing of keyboardist Richard Wright. Great reaction. It is indeed a masterpiece. There are better Pink Floyd tunes, but not by much. Try the studio version of "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" and anything from the studio version of Dark Side of the Moon. They have new fan created videos for the original songs on the Pink Floyd website.

When youtube first started there was a maximum length of video that you were allowed to upload, until you had passed a certain goal, something like a couple of hundred subscribers, or a certain amount of uploads. If you wanted to upload a long track then it had to be done in two halves (hence the "part one" text at the start). The two halves have now been combined into one upload, but the text at the beginning still hints at the history.

So just a little song about how all life started in the depths of the oceans, strived to reach up onto the land and the light of sun, how we are all deeply related, and should be better human beings, opening windows and not building walls. We are just distant echoes from that explosion of life. ❤ And to anyone who thinks any band is "over rated" that's just such a silly concept. It just means your not in the group of people whos taste differs from yours.
