Could you do something like this with udyr vs a shen or jax? Udyr has no way to circumvent those abilities, a yi's damage is primarily his autos but he can still q for damage during shen w or jax e, and can also dodge shen taunt or jax stun with it. Would be interesting to see how you handle a champ like udyr into those auto nullifying matchups.

"We prove hard counters don't matter" Shows illaoi vs maokai in a plat game. I'd call this video stupid but that would be an understatement. First of all, illaoi is an easy lane for any tank since at no point do you even need to fight her in lane, she can't kill you unless you do something stupid(like making this video). Second, If you showed an actual match up, most of what you said is going to implode on itself

Well, around level 7 Illaoi can 1 shot caster minion with her Q and push you under turret, and now you cant cs because she will get free E on you since you will be standing still while last hitting with aa. And her E half HP most of the champion if you don't run out of it which forces you you to miss even more cs and the moment her E stop spawning tentacles around you, her E cd is about to come back up and she has already pushed in the next wave while you cleared the spawning tentacles, plus if she get ganked its a free double kills with her ult, so wtf am i suppose to do? because she out sustain most of a our trade.

As a player who actually used to play Illaoi quite a lot in comparison to other champs i thought she is basiacally useless before lvl 3 as she relies on her E and if she took it earlier she would have no damage to even kill the soul. As Illaoi i always look for the wave to push towards me at 1-3 levels so i can freeze between 3 tenacles on the edge of tower range. If i fail to freeze i clear the wave and start slow pushing but i feel like if i pushed agaisnt darius he could just zone me away from minions or make me waste all my mana if not just run down through the lane to my death. I never think of Illaoi as a champion good in any way before getting level 3. Then I usually go for Iceborn Gountlet so that i get tanky, my W slows people so that tenacles actually hit them, i have mana and cdr to cast abilities. At this point Illaoi can take control over many lanes but she doesnt have enough damage and mana to reliably poke someone to death if they play around your e so i just punish people who try to fight me with my e and use ulti if i get ganked or forced to all in by the enemy laner. If enemy jungler is a melee ad champ that cant avoid tanacle slaps it is a pretty good way to score a double kill early on.

As much as I dislike how that Illaoi played, it just helps shows the fact that she actually has little to no focus on fundamentals that are just ingrained into me. It's known fact to play passive until 3 (which leveling q first helps alot with wave clearing from safety) and if the matchup is really hard, keep it up until you get ult. That's when you can ram top lane and drag the enemy jungle to you or you drag the body of their top laner to their inhib. It's amazing to see how much losing an early trade really changes the way the game goes compared to just playing to your strengths.

Counter picks seriously suck, and not only does this match fail to point out the difficulty, it's also lost on a simple fact. You're not a challenger inting in bronze. You're a bronze inting in bronze. Okay, so good fundamentals beat out a counter pick, if you're highly skilled. If you're a Silver playing in Bronze and someone counter picks, they're going to win even though you've got more skill simply because they picked the champ you're weak against. That's not going to be every match, and if you're actually skilled you'll rise with matches like that eventually. But if you get counter picked one match up, a support that disconnects the next, a jungler who plays Soraka jungle because "Memes", and none of them want to surrender so the match goes on for an hour every time while the enemy team farms CS and kills to get S ranks and look better than they are, and you have to go to bed because you're an adult with a job that isn't playing League all day or a high school/college student that's going to fake sick after staying up late, you're going to actually be stuck in bronze forever because your average match numbers are lower than most other players, even though you might actually be more skilled than people in your ELO, just to also point things out in the realities of low ELO hell. I knew a guy who played for years, got to Diamond, then he got a job and now he's stuck in Silver every season because he gets one maybe two matches a night, and the times he can actually get a group of bronzes to listen is vastly outnumbered by the times someone intentionally quits or starts flaming until someone else quits, or the enemy is smurfing (like the video above) and 1v9s. It's not that he's terrible, in a group of premades he's pretty good, but when you only get a few matches in a day... yeah, counter picks are GOING to ruin your day, your ELO, and your mood.

ever heard of side stepping? And the guy is platinum, its easy to notice mistakes when some1 showes them to you. Starting w works if u stand in the middle of the lane and then the tentacles will be in range so trading would work and the wave could be pushed also he picked a champion in a matchup where the enemy has every advantage he can have if u are playing ranked and someone counterpicks u like that u dodge. In this match-up, Illaoi shouldn't have tried to push the lane, but rather let it push to her and last hit with Q while setting up tentacles under her turret Once she was level 3, she could start to push the lane by slowly advancing her tentacle line, since there's little to nothing Maokai can do to stop that By the time she pushed the lane back, she should be level 6, and even tho the opponent jungler was a range, she should be able to 1v2 easily from this point Her mistake was that she got too low in the first levels, while she isn't level 3 Illaoi is quite weak

Actually no Illaoi is very weak level 1 and 2, and Maokai has built-in sustain, so she should have played passive, witch she did not She fed him grasp procs and any trade was bad since Maokai would slowly heal it back up Once she was level 3 she could have started to play aggressive and push her tentacles line, but she was too low at that point

Yes, believe it or not, if the opponent makes dumb mistakes, then you can win any matchup. That doesn’t make the matchup good. if i’m playing aatrox into irelia and she messes up and let’s me hit her with Q’s. It’s still a bad matchup. Most of the time, if you’re playing at your level, your opponent will have a similar level of fundamentals than you, meaning you will usually lose the bad matchup, this doesn’t change just cause someone is smurfing on this illaoi.

Losing to an enemy champ is kinda tilting, i mean, it happens. Losing to an LvL 7 champ with at least 100k skill points is also tilting since s/he knows the champ. THE most absolute tilting experience in league is you playing *a new champ in draft pick* , for the sake of fun, and having an *enemy LvL 7 200K champion BRAGGING about stomping on you* . It's like if Mike Tyson faced a baby, biting it to death and the bragging about that. On the report section their should be a special option for this kind of behavior. Great video btw

Maokai doesn't seem to be as countered as you said by Illaoi. As Maokai you have enough sustain to lane against her and can cancel her W with maokai's snare. That makes it a winnable matchup

Alright, few points : - Conqueror gives adaptative force for each stacks now. when it procs it only heals, so you should have walked back a bit earlier imo - You have more mecanics than illaoi (dodging E, passive ect) but let's be honnest, you killed her and survived with 10hp. Imagine if a plat was playing maokai. If illaoi hits only 1 E, she will just destroy you. Since u pushed the wave, she will be able to freeze and deny you cs (and exp). So, yes you won the matchup, not because you were smarter, but because you had more mecanic than her. This wave managment was awful imo.

@@ryandinero877 If maokai pushes the wave and takes a really bad trade, I don't see how he can recover from that. (Lane freezing, exp denying ect) It's like a nasus / darius matchup, I can't see how (he mentionned the fact that illaoi hard trolled by not pushing the lane) and why you would push in this situation. Plus illaoi doesn't have much pressure under tower if maokai dodges her E (it's clearly easier to dodge it if he pushes the wave, but it also cost less if he don't) Imo by not pushing, maokai stay safe from ganks and doesn't take risks for 'nothing'. I'm not saying that he shouldn't trade, but looking for a kill looks way to greddy. As I said above, the challenger barely escaped with 10hp, I don't think that a plat player could have done the same !

0:57 Mission 1: push if possible you say but you don't explain why. If I push the wave (not that it is possible if Illaoi decides to hard shove but let's say she lets me push) She gets to freeze therefore possibly deny xp and gold. I can bait her to trade with me when I'm close to my minions which would break the freeze but after that trade she might have a window to kill me because she can still harass me when I'm cs'ing under my tower. I'm also open to the potential ganks as I pushed the wave. I cannot get any plates because Maokai is a melee champion and it would put me in a difficult situation to just walk up to enemy tower while my opponent is farming there. It is illogical to set up/bait for 2v2's because Maokai at level 2-3 is not better than Illaoi in 2v2's. Now if Illaoi pushes me back to my tower I struggle to cs and get harassed. If I can freeze close to my tower and cs there Illaoi still can harass and push at the same time. If the lane is in the middle I have enough space to dance around Illaoi tentacles and farm although I'm more open to ganks I'm also having a better laning. It is the best scenario in my opinion in all the scenarios which are all bad due to Illoai countering Maokai.

He is pushing so that he has more minions and, when trading, Illaoi is going to have a bad time. If he had not pushed the wave, Maokai would have had a bad time because he trades worse than Illaoi, because she's a Juggernaut and Maokai's a Tank.
@HappyGick

There are some general guidelines: - Don't push if you're on the melee side of a melee vs ranged matchup. If you do, they'll probably freeze against you and you'll insta lose the lane. If you're on the ranged side, push as hard as you can. - Extended trade matchups (Irelia, Illaoi, Darius, Aatrox) can be countered by slow pushing. Like that, you'll have a big minion wave, and if you're healthy enough when that happens, they can't trade, if they try and you play correctly, they WILL lose the trade thanks to the minion wave. - If you have more waveclear, just push, it's your champion's strength. Otherwise, don't try to push it. Analyze your champion's kit and determine what is your win condition, aka how do you kill people. Based on that and your matchup (how does *_the enemy_* kill you) you define your game plan.
@PyrusnVentus

In general, make it a goal to always push the lane, unless you can answer the question "Why would I not want to push the lane?". There are some valid answers: I'm gonna fucking die to a gank easily or I will get run down and killed despite the minion wave (Darius or Irelia for example), or I won't be able to threaten the champion if I push (like playing vs Ryze or Vlad). However, by pushing the wave you gain a great advantage with minions and will win trades more often than not, and you will draw the enemy jungler toward you. As long as you don't die, this is very very beneficial because if the enemy jungle is in your lane, they aren't in other lanes, which means your teammates are more likely to succeed.

Ok, let's break down Illaoi's laning phase. (I've seen silver - gold Illaois play much better than this one here) - W start. Not ideal. There is nothing that W start achieves that you do not get with Q. - Horrible wave management at level 1. No waveclear - push ability = guaranteed to get shoved in and lose any possible level 1-3 advantage you could get. Instead, Maokai gets access to levels 2 and 3 faster, thus negating any attempt from Illaoi to try and bully him. - E level 2. Probably the biggest mistake. Illaoi is low on HP, and instead of trying to heal up using Q, she takes E, and that's especially wrong seeing how she cannot really follow up on damaging the clone, doesn't get access to sustain and Maokai can stand behind his MORE minions to block E. It's almost safe to say that this lane won't be hard for Maokai anymore, at least not before level 6. - She does a lot of mechanical mistakes. She misses like 2-3 auto attacks on minions instead of Maokai, thus resulting in lost damage + Conq procs that could hugely enable her to turn around the 1v1. - Even with all the mistakes she did (engaging on you level 3 vs levl 4), she still almost managed to kill you. What I'm trying to say with this is that counter match ups are called that, because the lanes are actually unplayable. You cannot beat them, unless they do big mistakes, and even then, you will probably still lose. Try to play Maokai, Sion, Shen, Chogath into something like Darius, Renekton, Illaoi, Garen etc. It's unplayable.
@popaandrei8861

You can 100% do fine in all the matchups you listed if you play smart with cooldowns instead of playing into what the enemy champ wants, the problem with all the QQ threads and people getting frustrated is that they would rather just say enemy champ is OP and they can't do shit instead of taking the time to learn their powerspikes. It becomes much easier to play against juggernauts or bruisers once you learn when each of them wants to fight you, and this can get very specific. Of course not everyone has the time to do this, but if you have time to go post about it on reddit or watch this kind of videos you could use this time learning champs better.

@@popaandrei8861 If the enemy Darius knows what he is doing, you cannot win. If he understands the same core mechanics like trading with cooldowns and doesn't just randomly use his abilities on the wave, you cannot beat him. The only thing you can hope for is to try and have as passive a lane as possible, try to get a freeze close to your tower so you do not overextend and hope to go as even as you can until around 10-15 minutes, where you can start roaming and be more useful as a Maokai locking down targets with CC. Essentially, you have to give up control of the lane and hope you can make up for it mid-late. Illaoi did a ton of mistakes in this video. She didn't laand any of her E, open Q, played away from her tentacles, was trading into the enemy minion wave etc. Sure, if someone plays as bad at this, then you can beat them with anything. My comment obviously refers to opponents who know what they are doing. Sure, Platinum this season is a shitfest, but trust me, you lane as Maokai vs my Urgot, and you gonna be having a hard time.

Michael Li It is a diff lane just for a fact that illaoi can outpush maokai and force him under tower where 2 connected Illaoi E will either kill him or make maokao recall. Illaoi doesn't have to kill maokai 0 3 to win lane, since she can she outfarm him so hard that not even the jgler can help due to her pushing wave advantage and tentacles spawning right at tower or the walls near tower where she will always have advantage in trading or combat. This video just shows some plat NA braindead stuffs where the Illaoi got so focused on trading she forget that she can easily outfarm him and thereby having lane priority and advantage to contest future objectives. Prime example of wave management and outfarm > bully and trade enemy laners out of lane would be ryze, ryze is almost like illaoi, he has great pushing power and team combat dmg, and so often ryze players focus on farming hard till they got 300 cs where everyone is 200 or 150, at that point he has level and items advantage and would won most team combat. People always make mistakes.. it’s the reason why elo brackets exist. People who minimize mistakes and understand matchups are the ones writing the guides in challenger or streaming. If you are in a matchup where you simply cannot trade or you will die (like maybe yasuo vs renekton perhaps) then your only real option is to freeze the lane, ping for ganks, and if no ganks come build defensively and soak cs/experience without trading your life. It is better to lose lane than to violently int and create a monster enemy for your team. That or you just dodge/ban nothing wrong with that.
