My Dynamic Duo, My Favorite Boys. I am so sorry to hear that Charlie isn't feeling well. But in true Favorite Boys fashion, you found a Vet that would get Charlie in right away, and agree to give him the care he needs to get better. Whatever the two of you decide to do, I will support you and remain a faithful fan. You will get your house done, life just throws in curveball. But, the one thing I have learned about the two of you, you can both overcome anything. Until Wednesday. Sending Love and Hugs to Tyler and Todd and their Lil Family 💙💙🐶🐶🐱

When we bought our first house we chose a single story with no large steps. Our 16 year old Lhasa Apso doesn’t have to worry about falling down stairs. They bring us so much love and joy, we feel lucky that we can give them a home that is safe and lets them enjoy a longer, happier life. We will never remember the dollars, but we will forever cherish the moments with our 🐶s.

My lab at 8 had her first CCL surgery. We would carry her down the stairs with a towel wrapped under her to support her back weight. 2 years later she had to have the other leg operated on. She lived til she was 17. Charlie's stubborn like her and wants to be around to see the land completed. Big hugs guys! ❤

Sending prayers for Charley's successful surgery & recovery. We had a recent scare with our cat Lily, who was fine one minute & limping the next. Vet, whose office is 10 minutes away, was able to see her the same day. Tests revealed tendonitis of the knee of her right back leg. She's on meds now & doing great. I expect to hear that Charley's doing great soon too.❤

Back in 1979, the day before Christmas, my mom had to bring her poodle to the vet because she was suddenly feeling sick. The next day, Christmas day, the veterinarian called my mom to check in and make sure the dog was feeling well. I recognize then, that Veterinarians give better care and more compassion to animals than human doctors give to humans

Love this idea - however, as it turns out people think you're unhinged when you tell them you're moving in with two dogs and a cat. The rental market here is in a really bad way and there's virtually nothing available. If there is something available, out of the 20 people who will apply they'll choose the ones without pets unfortunately!

We live in our dome full time in Nove Scotia too (north of Truro)! We got our's spray foamed with 3 to 4 inches and it's UNBELIEVABLY warm in here! It's been getting down to -2 at night and it's +23 in here without the stove going full tilt! We've been meaning to invite you guys over since we're probably only around an hour from each other. You guys helped inspire us to do this! We sold our home and were looking for ways to move off grid and we found your videoes and went for it! Last winter we had an "arctic insulation" cover (basically R3 insulation) and each morning it was below 0 in here. NOW we have it spray foamed directly onto the dome walls and we get too warm in here! You can get a kit at Home Depot (it's class 1 rated so I think it passes permitting if that was a concern). We went with a company here but the kit from HD would also work (I worked it out and it's around the same price for either). Cheers guys, we've been meaning to invite you over for dinner. I'd love to send you some photos of our dome!

No WAY!!! Okay, so this is exactly what we wanted to do from the very beginning but we were pushed away from doing it because it would make taking the exterior cover off impossible because the foam would be stuck to it. We have TWO layers of insulation plus the arctic liner and in January, February and March it's just rotten. The days when we're awake it can get no joke, 30 degrees but the second we stop feeding the fire and it dies down the cold creeps in instantly. Do you have any concerns of how you'll salvage the insulation for when you replace the exterior cover? Also, yes def e-mai us hello@tylerandtodd.com we'd love to connect!!

We've had two smaller dogs with CCL damage who had the less involved repair surgery, and both of them did beautifully. (Anatomically, smaller dogs are plagued by fragile knee joints.) They were both considered seniors when they had the procedures. We just stopped every optional thing and tended to them through their surgery and recuperation, and it was absolutely the right choice; one of our knuckleheads managed to undo her stitches the day after surgery, and the other one tried mightily, so it was a good thing we were both there to keep an eye on them. As cool as the projects are, and as much vicarious enjoyment we get out of your triumphs, you wouldn't be the folks we love if you didn't make your animals the priority. We'll happily watch you walk Charlie onto an astroturfed patio in Arizona for two months if that's what it takes for our guy to get back to four on the floor. Good luck to all, and we'll all be pulling for Charlie's recuperation!

Hi guys! I am so sorry that dear Charlie is having a rough go of it right now. He will do great with the surgery and recover beautifully...I am sure of it! But you know what? I think a bit of pampering over this winter might be just what all of you need! Find a fabulous vacation style rental for a couple of winter months - a beautiful place that is warm and cozy; one you all will love and that will be easy and comfy for the dogs. A change of scenery and a brief break from the ongoing issues there would give you both *exactly* what you need. This is what the dark months are for. In winter we should be focused on feeding our bodies well, resting, recouping, recharging, and readying ourselves for the next season. You both need that - and now Charlie really does too. And I sure hope you wouldn't be worried about us! Naturally, you will take us with you! We would *love* to go on "away" time with you! That would be so fun! 💜🧡

I’m a 70 year old lesbian single women who has built a home by myself as well. I so understood your building troubles. I’ve built a home with out a builder for various reasons. I’m now in the fully functional home while the final occupancy is not signed yet. I also know the numerous inspection issues, like “there is a screw missing in a panel or your toilet is not silicon sealed “… It’s taken a long time and I did go away and spend last winter with friends elsewhere which was great. But starting this winter in a completed home- I built, despite all the na-sayers and how beautiful it turned out. I’m warm cozy and proud. So worth it but if you need a break take it. It will still be there next spring.

That’s one thing I’ve noticed in your vlogs. Your both are doing a great job walking in the others shoes so to speak. Your doing what’s best for Charlie and I pray he will get through the surgery and recover quickly. He has the best daddies. I think the question you can ask yourselves is “If Charlie wasn’t compromised would you still feel overwhelmed or is this new worry just too much to deal with because of frustration overload?” Your accomplishments have been huge and compared to the average homeowner your skills are extraordinary. I've watched your latest video (We Need To Talk) twice already. My wife has not seen it yet, but I am going to sit her down tonight. We've been watching your Channel for a long time. You are our very favorite KZitem couple. Your latest video left me blubbering, and teary-eyed. You are both so intrepid. This problem with Charlie will get better. We have two Yorkies, and they are our whole life. Both our babies are getting on in years, and we're two people who don't deal with illness or loss, whether they be people or puppies and kitties. The "container house" was a big step for you, and we admire you for your ability to rise above the challenges. We are married almost fifty years, and we have been doing "fix and flip" homes ever since our son was three years old. We always buy homes we feel sorry for, and we make them new. The last three homes were the only ones we actually let other builders do most of the work. At 72 years of age, we've been slowing down. It's not as easy holding a paintbrush, while keeping the ladder from taking us on a joy ride to the floor. Stick with your project. You've GOT THIS ! Our hope is one day to meet-up with you, and share life experiences, a nice cup of tea, or bottle of wine. We know you're hooked on the house thing. We can tell.

There is nothing better the a good word vomit sesh to clear out the pipes. Get rid of that heavy energy to that clogs even the simplest things of our lives, and make room for the stuff we need. You two are doing absolutely amazing. It’s just like everything in our lives, we do the best we can with what we have. Sweet Charlie of course is priority and it’s ok to take a step or two back, to move forward. If we don’t do it, we miss things that we are supposed to see, feel, learn, and experience. If we don’t life finds away to do it for us. I know finishing the house is super important, but forever home is not the destination as it is the journey. If you can shut the place down - make sure the water will not freeze - go south for a few months. RV, rent - take that family break to help Charlie and yourselves heal. Squirrel might like to travel - or she might like to stay with grandparents.

I never tire of watching an animal so cared for and loved. Our dog had to have three surgeries in December upstate NY, after a car hit her and left her on the side of the road. She was a new rescue when she got off her leash and ran off. Our life became trying to trap her first, which she took the bait and somehow did not set the trap door off. We put signs then all over. We could tell she was near but her fear was so great, as she came from an ASPCA rescue of many dogs that were ill treated, so she just could not get to the door. Thank God for ppl like you guys and animal lovers as her surgeries were more than $14000 and many donated to help our Tish who had a horrible first five years of life, so I get your planning. They always come first, in our life. We too carried her and helped her out for bathroom breaks as well. I cried seeing and feeling the love you have for your fur babies. You are both such beautiful souls!

Thanks for using us in the community as active listeners. We all are here with you however long it takes. Take a breath, unwind in the cabin and use the winter to recalibrate. Both of you have the heart and perspective to find your way through this together. ❤

Our female snapped all the ligaments in her left knee three years ago, and then one year ago, she did the other knee. She was so depressed being in the cage that we bought a child's playpen to have her in in order to restrict her movements, and we used to get in with her when she looked sad. Our other dog, a male, used to stay by the playpen to keep her company. Now she runs around like nothing happened, and she just turned 11. Give Charlie a HUGE hug and kisses from me, I understand how stressful this can be, and I am sending you all positive vibes and prayers. ❤🐾🐾

My dog has recently had TPLO surgery for ruptured cruciate ligament. He is 9.5 years old and they said it’ll be 12-16 weeks for full recovery. The first few weeks were hard with lots of sling support. He is 6 weeks in an X-rays reported good news and 2/3rd healed. He will be better than before when it’s fully healed.

My boxer beagle mix would tear through the woods and came home limping, never made any sounds of discomfort. Broke his front leg in 3 places. Another time he jumped off something and I heard a yow yip but he trotted home. Next day I find a puncture wound. He’s still going strong at 13. You’ll all get through it.

All I know is that we all have to do what’s right for us in our personal circumstances. And if that means moving into town for those harsh months? to give yourselves and Charlie Chops the best and harmonious opportunity, then of course that’s what you’ll do. Bless you all. You are so so nice, considerate and kind. We will all support you I’m sure. ✌🏾

So sorry that Charlie hurt himself. It is just so hard when our baby dogs have something so life changing happen. Especially when they are older. Our old fella, Zinsser, is now over 14. He tore his ACL a year ago right now. We are in Minnesota and the winter was right around the corner. We couldn't get in with a surgeon until a month later (Covid delays). He is only 20 pounds and it felt daunting to know we would be in for such a long recovery time. He couldn't go on ice in case he splayed his legs. But, we do what we have to. We were joined at the hip for a long time. It sounds like Charlie will be well taken care of by a great medical team. So glad to hear that you are thinking about what you need to stay comfortable and give yourselves a break in the days ahead. I've been watching you for a long time. Really look forward to my Sunday update and now the podcast too. Hang in there. Charlie couldn't have a more wonderful family. He sure is loved. ❣

Good thoughts and healing vibes for Charlie. Our Lola had her first ACL repair at five and the second at ten. She bounced back very quickly both time so hoping Charlie does likewise. In regards to your build...find someone to do it for you. It may cost you some serious money but it will save your sanity. I know of what I speak having gone through a three year renovation that included lockdown.

Our dog Dudley had the same surgery. We had to use the lift strap for 6 weeks. We had to curtail his nighttime movements for his safety & our peace of mind. We put our mattress on the living room floor & we slept with him the whole time. It became one of our fondest memories with Dudley. After healing he was fully back to normal, running & playing, as if nothing had happened. We could always feel the bolts & he could too. He would mess with it a bit at first and did eventually chew a "hot spot" below it. That's something to keep in mind. I hope this little bit of advice & experience helps to ease your minds. We are sending you & all your fur babies much love & healing energies! ❤

I’ve been watching you guys for years and this my first time commenting. What I truly think may be a good idea for you guys is to go rent an apartment or home for the winter. I’m not sure how it is there but in the states you can rent a place for 3 or even 6 months. It would be such mental release going to the land and working on it and figuring everything out then going back to place where you can just relax and not worry about getting wood for fire. Shoveling snow for the dogs. Using the restroom and showing outside. You guys really need a place where your stable in a sense of necessities just going home to completed place. You guys deserve it your body minds and animal children do as well. Love you guys much. Hope my advice helps

about 4 years ago we had to have the TPLO surgery for our now 8 yo lab/collie mix, she is the exception and has not had to have the other leg done and is living a very full and happy life running and playing regularly. It can be scary and right after the surgery, my husband and I spent the next 6 weeks taking turns sleeping in our office floor with her as she recovered. Good luck guys!

Dogs are amazing creatures and astoundingly adaptable. You will be surprised at how well he does and how quickly he adjusts to the new routine. I’m glad you found a vet in whom you are comfortable to do the surgery. We live in a somewhat remote part of Arizona and have limited access to veterinarians. We too must travel over 100 miles for emergency vet care. That is frightening to us as it is to you. We agree with you about vets versus people doctors. When faced with a crisis I would much prefer a vet, they are far better diagnosticians. Let’s face it, their patients don’t say much and worse, their natural defense is to hide their limitations. Of course, whether you leave for the winter is your decision, it is however, sometimes a real benefit to take a break and recharge yourselves. You may find you’ll return with renewed enthusiasm and perhaps even new and exciting ideas for your future. Whatever you do, love each other and your pets. You are all a family.

My dog is 17. We adopted him when he was 10 so I really understand how much love you can get from an older dog and have for an older dog. That said, you may have to really have a difficult talk about how much intervention and difficult procedures you are willing to put a dog through. I am not here to second guess your choices, just to say every responsible pet owner needs to have that difficult conversation.
