Hi, Happy New year. Amazing. Thanks I missed how you started the drilling process into the rounded gearing. Lol that is a known hard part, for me. I am thinking of upgrading to a Holley sniper of super sniper injection kit etc for ls1 I have. I missed learning about efi and diagnostics as in Was busy in carburetors. So I like your self am self taught or learning and really appreciate the education side as well. Lol I have a bbc 454 supercharged, 6/71 as well with 650 cfm twin carbies I have almost finished. I am like a blind man when it comes to all the efi tuning bla bla bla. So thanks I am silently following your all footsteps, from Australia. Lol. I am a backyard type car, bike, truck and motor builder more to personal building for the love of it. In really enjoy being in your class. Lol Take care. Awesome work shop Great work.

Just a helpful tip, if you make your circular "dips" just a little bit bigger than your tool diameter (0.187) it will help eliminate the tool chatter you saw at the bottom of each of the circular tooth "dips".
@ETicketM

If you design it with symmetrical holes, threads, and countersinks the final assembly is naturally balanced while spinning. This would mean each half would have a tapped hole on one side and a countersunk hole on the other side. Both parts would be identical. Of course yours will work fine, just a way to make it a little bit better next time.

Whenever you do 3D design, think of how you need to machine it. Example. Start with your outer dia and extrude. Now work off one surface of it. cut down to your tooth surface, cut teeth, cut center dia. This will ensure on more complicated pieces you don't make "impossible" machining situations. Overall good job learning from scratch 👍

I miss this video when it came out but I'm going to comment anyways. Very impressed with your CAD work. A pointer for really any type of fab work is if that piece was like 69'd it would be more balanced but more importantly when you make a program both pieces would be the same. If something were to happen and you had to remake one piece it would just be easier. I would really love to see more of these type of videos, very awesome

You shouldn't side cut with an endmill cutter in a drill chuck. It will ruin the jaws in the chuck and cause excessive tool runout. You should get a set of endmill tool holders. I've been in the tool and die business for 35 years. Great projects to learn on, Nice job.

Drills are the most economical and efficient way to remove material so in the future would be best if you drilled the route between the teeth as much as possible and then go back in and clean and profile with an End Mill to get better results quicker with less machine time unless we're on the more expensive End Mill. Also Hall sensors for the win.

someones dad needs a few bt40 er25 collet chucks and a set of collets for his birthday! thats a machinist sin putting an endmill in a drill chuck!! i gotta give respect though it still got the job done! its pretty cool you not only drew but tool pathed that as well. if you wanted to get rid of the chatter in the bottom of the teeth you could draw a bolt hole circle so it would take like .003-.005 off and use a drilling cycle to finish the walls at the bottom of the teeth. like 3k and maybe 5-8 ipm. that usually works in that situation of a long tool overhang and a large side engagement of the tool.

Great CAD work and machining. The only thing is it is going to be off balance as the Allen heads are on the same side, so one half will way more than the other. If one head was on each piece the weights would offset each other and spin smoothly.

I thought the same thing. I'm guessing it's not going to matter a huge amout because it's a small weight, close to the shaft and bearing. Alex, from a ballance point of view you're better off having the bolt heads opposite. Easy done using a circular pattern in Fusion.
