This the problem with gambling worming it's way into sports. Gambling issues supersede hockey news, opinions and culture. Thanks Bettman.

Good post. Tks for reporting and keeping us informed. A pity Marek's time with SN ends in such a way. A bit of a farce imo. As if SN didn't know that he(and most likely many others) has been sharing insider info with colleagues for years. It's how info is disseminated. Just my immediate reaction...not a great amount of thots put into it. Ntl thanks for clariying the situation and adding your own analysis or perhaps overview on it.

There could well be other stuff going on behind the scenes that we're not aware of but to the extent that what's been reported is true, I have to say that Sportsnet had no other choice than to let Marek go for this. It's a shame because I like him a lot but this is a pretty clear violation of a broadcaster's code of conduct and it's honestly something a person of Marek's experience should know better than to do. Whether there was actual harm that resulted from the conduct is beside the question. It is the appearance of impropriety. Playing the "yeah, but... what about" game isn't going to work either

Literally didn’t someone leak all of Seattles draft picks like a day before the draft? I feel like that’s way worse. I didn’t listen to much of their material, but this is still sad to me

The argument that "Sportsnet becomes the source" sounds like nonsense. Pronman shared the draft picks, does that make The Athletic the source? Seravelli shared the entire Seattle Kraken expansion draft before it happened. McKenzie has shared draft picks multiple times over the years, but no one claimed TSN was the source because of it. It does look like the league wanted to smack someone, and Marek happened to be the odd man out. Maybe the NHL should clean house and stop anyone from learning and sharing these details before they happen, if it's gonna be such a big deal.

Getting information from, say, a team source is a lot different than getting league-official information only because you’re a broadcast partner. It’s understood that it’s confidential in the latter scenario. What he’s alleged to have done is way offside.

It doesn't matter who you are. If there is a chance the bookies could lose money because of you, like just the possibility...you no longer have a job. The money that flows through those legal bookies could fund a war lol

Sportsnet hockey coverage is bad enough, now they lost another talent. If there's two broadcasts of the same game, I usually watch the non-Sportsnet one. I don't need to see a closeup of Nylander's face while he's skating with the puck through the neutral zone. It's almost as if they hire a bunch of DEI hires who never watched a hockey game in their lives to run the broadcasts.

Blood sucking leaches (the gambling dens), and NHL selling their soul to them. But, NO, there's no influence on game results, right? How referees call games, right? How can you complain about one, and insist there's nothing to see from the other perspective? Money is the same on both sides of the argument. Cheers
