With splitting wedges, stones, blocks and boulders of any size can be split.
If a large boulder lies on your site and interferes - split it with wedges!
Or maybe you need to prepare stones for construction, and want the stones to immediately have a beautiful face? Then the wedges are your best helpers!
The technology of working with wedges is as follows:
When we decided on what pieces to chop a block or a boulder, we drill holes for wedges into a stone. Wedges must be set in a straight line! Imagine it, or draw it.
First, drill a stone with a drill equal to the diameter of the wedge. For example, if the wedge is 16 mm, then we take a drill of 16 mm. The depth of the hole in the stone should be 1-2 cm greater than the length of the wedge. Insert the wedges into the resulting holes so that the edges of the wedges are aligned in one line. Otherwise, the efforts from hitting the wedges will not give the desired effect: the force breaking the stone will be directed in different directions, and the stone will crack in different directions.
We begin to hammer the wedges into the holes. A few hits on the wedges - and wait 10-20 seconds. We hear the stone crack! The sound is very specific - it can be heard well at 02:19.
We drive in the wedges until such a gap appears that you can insert the mount (nail puller, pickaxe).
We insert the mount into the resulting gap between the stones and begin to carefully breed the stones. As soon as the gap allows, we take out the wedges. And we work with the mount until the piece of stone falls off.
Hard stone is easier to chop than soft. Because a hard stone breaks evenly over its entire diameter, while a soft stone breaks into small pieces.
How to understand what kind of wedges to use in work? After all, the diameter of the wedges can be from 14 mm to 32 mm. Most often, thin wedges are used for small stones, and thick wedges are used to split large blocks. The best option for me is wedges of 16 or 18 mm: they do not require super efforts and they can crack large blocks.
Wedges for splitting a stone are durable in use. I have enough for several years.
