Those are actually an option for Florida provided by the power company because of hurricanes. I installed them when i used to work in Florida before my spinal cord injury. I have one on my house as well as my mothers. Different brand, same thing You still have to have an automatic throw over switch to detach you from the grid when you're generator is in use.

In the past couple years in my area power company has been installing "smart meters ". I put a padlock on mine so they couldn't do it. I'm pretty sure I'm the only one in this area that still has the old meter. I have to pay more to have the meter read but I don't care. I'm more concerned with the power company being able to shut off my power via satellite then an EMP.

I’m glad you are still one of the lucky ones 🤝🙏🏼 I was at work and I also kept a good padlock on mine , they cut it off and did it anyway. When I told them come take it back off they refused and said then they would cut our power off if I did anything to remove it Never been late on a payment so I know exactly how this is going to go down my friend, keep up the good fight 🙏🏼🕊️✝️

Got the same problem! 40.00 extra to opt out of their SPACE JUNK hookup? Volunteered to read the meter? Did that 2 months, they STILL charged me the 40.00 a month? Not reading it anymore! I noticed they didn't either? The bill is going up and up? Used to like my ELECTRIC company! NOT SO MUCH ANYMORE! Don't think that's fair,so they don't have to do their jobs?

I opted out they charge extra to read old meter. Then they started reading meter monthly instead of bi-monthly. I'll gladly pay extra to keep old meter. Some areas where I live the water meters have been changed to be remotely read and option to turn off water supply.

Get a soft start capacitor for your hvac unit!!! That will allow you to run your hvac with a 2000 -4000 watt genny! Runs about $800 installed! I have one installed on my travel trailer and works great! I can run my camper from a 2000 watt solar genny now!

I already have a normal switch gear, I have a whole house generator hooked to a switch gear, I don’t allow it to switch automatically exactly for the emp reason. It would not be good to have it come on until I’m ready for it to in a bad event. The generator is inside a metal box which I thoroughly grounded. As I did to the switch gear box as well. I’ve never heard of a slow start system, I’ve heard of people who know how to hook them up using additional capacitors to the ac system to beat the surge when on a generator.

Won’t a emp kill the generator as well? How you gonna get more fuel? Solar maybe if you don’t go ace nuclear winter blocking the sun. Either hand crank or something similar is about the only thing reliable in my opinion for extended time. Just living without or with minimal power is the best bet.

I've been looking at the EcoFlo Delta Pro Ultra. Qualifies for the OBiden tax credit. Can deliver split phase 120V/240V. Can charge from grid, at a electric vehicle charging station, solar, or off a generator delivering 120V. With this, you can be selective about when you would be running a genset for charging. About 1.5-2 hours to charge off a generator, then silence while drawing off the battery. Pricy option. With whole home solutions, power quality is a consideration as many things now have microelectronics that are sensitive to dirty power. Summer is heating up. Stay cool over there!

Those are the most important things, and a power strip to run battery chargers or other low-draw items like an LED light string (rope lights are amazingly low power suckers). Don't forget about your well pump if you have a well, most are 240v. If you're on city water you have a much more serious problem coming.

I want tools i may not need, but so far its just getting things as i need them, and making them all solid investments with no regrets. Quality over quantity.
