Don’t apologize for leaving early. Next year do explore BC, but cross the boarder in June & take advantage of all the Rec sites. They are cheap or free and usually on a large lake. We explored them in 2018 on our way up to Tuk and were normally the only ones there (except weekends). But don’t stop there. Keep going north to Yukon & get above the Arctic Circle for 24 hr sun in July. It is magical to wake up at 3:00 am & walk outside to see the sun above the horizon, particularly in Tuk on the shore of the Arctic Ocean. We waiting until we were in our mid 60’s. Wish we had done that trip when we were your age. ❤️👍

The problem is if one is camping, they shut down camp grounds and access to fresh water and dump stations far sooner then one might think at some campgrounds so the problem becomes trying to camp at that time of year if relying on camp grounds and access to water. There doesn't seem to be any standard closing date so in Alberta for example quite a few will close Sept 4th, some the middle of Sept, some the end and a few will dribble into Oct and a very few remain open all year around but at that point there certainly would be no access to water for the obvious reasons.

@@NorthernRetreat Dare I ask where you get water from as its hard to get water from sources other than camp site or facilities that have dump stations etc in towns ( and they winterize them for the winter as well ). Also just speaking of in season time frames for camping in Canada, there is no off grid camping allowed within national parks which is the same as in the USA and makes it difficult to visit the large national parks if one can't afford a camp site or literally can't get a spot as they are INSANELY busy during the summer. Years back it never seemed so insane in the parks but that certainly has changed.

I always planned to return as a tourist after I retired, but that has not happened due to health and financial issues. So, you two are my vicarious travelers. I so enjoy watching your channel, so keep it going. I'm a MIchigander, and there is some beautiful sights to be seen in my native state, especially in the upper penisula. I would strongly recommend coming back through "da U P" on one of your trips. BTW, my wife Karen and I recently had our Golden Anniversary, and even though no body remembered except us, I would recommend that you two tie the knot when you are ready. Its typically dry as in dead grass on the forest floor come spring after the snow melts before the grass greens up and rains vary from year to year, its typical fluctuations of nature. The fires on the other hand, they don't just pop up on their own unless its lightening or man made. This year from some reports I have heard behind the scenes as well as officially, it would appear as though multiples fires have been purposely set as in arson ( or put another way, climate change nut cases causing the fires ). In Nova Scotia, same thing as they know some of the forest fires they had this year were purposely set.

Arizona has had forest fires almost every year. Oregon and Idaho were on fire last year. Forest fires are horrific but they rejuvenate the Forest.
@charlesb4267

@@MelissaMalzahn Yes, aside from the man made caused fires to fit an agenda I referred to, there is the natural rejuvenation created by forest fires and some trees such as pine trees for example do not open up their hard cones containing seeds unless they are subjected to a fire. That theme that used to exists with Smokey the Bear that all fire is bad, that was discovered to be completely wrong. However on a human level we don't want to see our houses burned down, nor would that squirrel or bird that calls a tree home and dies in a natural fire. That is why in some national parks they have controlled burns to try and mimic nature.

I grew up in Northwest Territories- the northern lights are spectacular, they fill the sky- in the winter we see them much earlier because it is so dark. My older brother, doing what older brothers do, told me that if you clap your hands, the lights would come down and take you away. To stop that, you have to whistle. It always seemed that the lights would come down to earth. The trouble was I could not whistle.
