Gosh, I would take my beautiful sister to as many concerts as possible...because she had a beautiful voice and because of our shitty childhood she didn't have the self confidence to explore...anyway she was 17 when we went to see her...she died at 38, hospitals fault. So love Teena and so many more that saved my life as a kid... Karen Carpenter

It truly breaks my heart to see people Amber and Jordan's age not even trying to learn about different types of music from different decades and have their children follow in their footsteps. @donnab I just turned 68 and I was listening to Teena before Rick and I listen to all of their music still, but just in the past couple of weeks I've been playing Lisa Fischer singing "How can I ease the pain 😢" because my man that I've loved for 25 years ended our Love the day before I turned 68. My Mom saw Rick in concert in the mid 80's. When he got to this song he announced Tina couldn't come and he'd do the song alone. When he got to the part "Remember when you used to...." she came walking out belting "Looovve...." Mom said the audience lost...their...minds!

When I'm watching you two, I realize that I took the music from my generation for granted. Of course I knew this is a fantastic song, however. Rick and Teena both debuted when I was a teenager and I've been hearing them ever since. Watching the reaction just now made me hear it with new ears. I was SO blessed to live in this musical era. 💛

AND...Legend has it that the day they were to record "Fire & Desire", Teena was sick with a fever and wanted to postpone the session. But, Rick was ready to do it anyway and thought about using another singer to fill in. Apparently, when Teena found out, she was not having it. She went into the studio anyway, cut her vocals and then went to the ER from the studio! Great story.

Teena Marie was truly an amazing multi-genre singer..funk/r&b/soul/dance!!! "Portuguese Love" "Behind The Groove" "I Need Your Lovin" "Square Biz" her music was ALWAYS on my 80s mix tapes!!...sooo tragic she died so young at age 54..truly a great loss!

I SAW these two LIVE at Swing Auditorium in San Bernardino, in 1981! I was 18 years old, this was one of the BEST concerts EVER! They had a beautiful chemistry and blew the doors off with this song! Back in the day, we had no phones nor internet and heard all music through the radio, album or tape! Blew me away when I saw that Tina Marie was a little petite white woman!

Yes! Rick James is mostly thought of as a Funk artist but he is also a great R&B artist. He is very underrated. And Teena Marie... she was absolutely fantastic! They were a great pair and she had some great hits and albums on her own. RIP to two great artists in every way.

I am so happy that you did this reaction. I am 62 years old and to this day, this is my all time favorite ballad. Nothing has ever come close. I saw Teena and Rick together perform this back in the day in Philly and OMG we joked about how all the ladies needed blow dryers after watching them perform. Their performance and chemistry was off the charts! They are both legends in the music industry. R.I.P. to both.

I am a hard-core Rick James and Teena Marie fan. I can’t even tell you how much I love this song. You should dive deeper into both Rick and Teena’s music catalogs.., especially Teena’s. she doesn’t have a bad song in the bunch! wow Im new to Teena but her voice & vocal range are on another level. she must be up there with the legendary vocalists of all time. she has a freedom & rawness that I dont think Mariah or Whitney had. I cant imagine any female singer upstaging her in a live duet. cause she has all the tricks!

Growing up on the Chappelle sketch made me want to check out Rick James. Sure, everyone knows Superfreak but that doesn’t even begin the depths of RJ’s musical genius. Wrote his own lyrics, wrote his own music, produced, and had one of the most underrated singing voices possibly ever

Rick James' voiceabd vocal technique were underated. He was excellent. He has this great uptempo tune 'You and I' that showed off his skill pretty well. Teena Marie was also fantastic as well, her song 'I Need Your Lovin' from her incredible album 'Irons in the Fire', shows her funk skills with grace and depth. This song shows both of them at the height of their powers. Kudos to your first listen.

Yes, Rick James (RIP) and Teena Marie (RIP) were amazing together. I think this was their their second and most popular duet of 3. They also did Square Biz, a dance track that helped introduce Teena Marie. But don't be fooled, most of the rest of Rick James music is Punk Funk with a heavy guitar and the horns of his Stone City Band.

Rick James was the Master of Punk Funk but his ballads are outstanding. He came on the scene in the '70's & blew us young folk away. Then he introduced us to Teena Marie & magic ensued. R.I.P. Rick & Teena❤️
