Connery had a massive falling out with the Broccolis and Harry Saltzman over money and Connery's public disgust at playing the role. Plus the rogue Bond film Never Say Never Again in 1983. They made up just before Cubby died in 1996. But he blasted Barbara for treating Pierce Brosnan like crap at the end of his tenure after the Brosnan era took Bond to massive commercial and box office highs. And putting the blame of the negative reaction of Die Another Day on him (Lee Tamahori is the one to blame), he felt Brosnan deserved a 5th film and to go out on a high note. Roger was very loyal to the Broccolis and a family friend.
