We Rode The Historic Skunk Train in Fort Bragg, California! (April 2023) The trip to Fort Bragg was out little getaway for our 4th year anniversary!
About the ride:
The train ride was 7 miles (25 minutes) one way, then it stops at Glen Blair Junction. I noticed some of the passengers were disappointed when we got there and they realized that the bar wasn't open LOL! I believe the bar is only open during weekends at night night time? We did the trip before lunch time, purchased the tickets the night before the train ride and everything else went smoothly! We did hike a 0.9 mile trail (it's honestly it's only 0.45 mile hike) which was also a pet friendly hike. The stop at Glen Blair Junction was only 30 minutes which was more than enough time to explore the area. We noticed a tunnel close to where we hike and I believe that was the tunnel that collapsed prior to the pandemic! This tunnel is currently under inspection and will soon be in the process of rebuilding.
Tickets for the Pudding Creek Express train ride were $49.95 per person. I say it's a fun little adventure especially for families with kids and/or dogs.
Lastly, why is it called the "Skunk Train"?
"The combination of the fumes created a very pungent odor, and the old timers living along the line said these motorcars were like skunks, “You could smell them before you could see them.” The railroad's historic name is California Western Railroad." - Skunktrain.com
