Wow, what a lovely time you've had this week. You just have to convince Fabio to become more of a water baby and get in the water, not only more often, but to do more when he does - like swimming some distance to keep fit and healthy. I remember the days where you both used to spearfish together. What happened to this days? Also it does get better than snorkelling...don a tank and go for a longer dive around the bays and headlands. It is great fun and very relaxing - just keep your depths shallow

We really did have an awesome time in Hanatefau Bay! 😂 I'll relay your message to Fabio. Unfortunately Ciguatera is quite prevalent in the fish in French Polynesia so it's best to go with a local to know what species to target. We just haven't had that opportunity. We should have gotten a dive compressor. We'd like to buy one, logistics is just a bit of an issue now. Thanks for watching!

@@HarborsUnknown Ah yes I forgot about the dreaded Cig. I've heard it only affects the larger fish, but I'm not sure if that is true - and it wouldn't be worth the risk. I know you can pick them up here 2nd hand for about $3K here in "Straya..and there is really no point buying new when a 2nd hand one will be perfectly fine once refurbished. Perhaps when you finally get over this way... Thanks for the prompt reply. 👍

Sorry this adventure is turning out so poorly for you two. Maybe try a Winnebago next and go camping in Orlando? How's the coral out there? Hard to tell from the videos - my comparison is 1980s/90s Bahamas. I'm worried by the time we set sail there will be nothing left but algae and parrotfish... :(
@HarborsUnknown

😂😂 not that bad!! It’s above average 😂😂. if we took a Winnebago to Orlando we would probably run over Goofy and get sued by Disney corp. There is very little coral in Marquesas (according to studies less than 5% of floor cover) naturally. There is beautiful coral in the Tuamotu and sadly you can observe bleaching and black algae cover in a number of colonies. You are 100% correct! Need to hurry up or it may be all gone.

Looks like a beautiful and welcoming spot. I am curious what the cruising custom is when you are invited to a meal at a local's home. Do you make a contribution to the meal? Invite them to share a meal on your boat in return? Just wondering how cruisers repay the hospitality. Thanks as always for your videos. Cheers!

Typically we pay, in this particular case it was a previously agreed price, I don’t remember exactly but about $20 or 30 per person. She runs a little restaurant out of her house. The food was fantastic and very well worth it. A culinary tour of the most important local dishes. Thanks for watching and for your comment.

Thank you for expressing your concerns about damaging the coral. We, like you, consider ourselves devoted protectors of reefs. There was no coral where we anchored, absolutely none, just green rocks volcanic rock in 50 feet of water. We do however float our chain when anchoring on sand near coral heads. It is really necessary especially in the Tuamotu Please read abstracted text in quotes from te citation below. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8545934/ “ The Marquesa Island one of the most isolated archipelagos on Earth, may provide important insights into the functioning of coral reefs characterized by low diversity and low coral cover. “ “On one of the main islands of the Marquesas, Nuku Hiva, mean coral cover is only ~ 5%” Please continue fighting for the health of our ocean!! Thank you for watching we truly appreciate it!
