In 2017 I bought a brand new right hand drive ranger XLT 2.2L turbo diesel 6spd. 4x2 and it was an incredible vehicle. We put it through its paces for 6 years and found it had more than adequate power, drove like a car and got incredible mileage. My only regrets are not ordering it with navigation screen or 4x4. It did have a real good limited slip rear end and got us up mountains and through sand without issues but a couple instances 4 wheel drive would have gotten us further. Moved back to Canada otherwise would have kept it.

Anyone else alittle confused by the turn around after failing to climb the hill part? So you turned around somewhere way out of shot, then backed back to the hill to show the ranger facing the opposite direction? Seeing as how the tire tracks go over the hill, it looks more like you made it up the hill and turned around up there and drove back to the bottom of the hill, where you stopped to take your shot. Again, Im not there, dont know what happened, but thats surely what it looks like at 13:59

Trust me, I agree! But it's not always so simple. The issue at this point in the winter is that there's 5-6 feet of snow and the ice is thick enough to support any pickup truck. So it wouldn't be the great mix of ice/mud that the 4Runner got. It would just be straight up deep snow. Plus, the Hydro Line trail is not close to where I live, so it's only when I'm up north that I use it. The trail you see in this video isn't a challenge, but it's close to my house! Sometimes proximity is most important. Thanks for watching and stay tuned for the spring when the Hydro Line trail will be at its deepest and muddiest!

Well, the Ranger is and will get good sales in the USA based on the brand loyalty the fans and the Hype. Actual Rangers are not the same the previous generations and in a few years you will see I’m right. Most of USA buyers don’t like to recognize the amount of Mazda on those trucks (personally I think the Mazda touch is the reason they are better built and more reliable than the other Ford products) and very soon you will have a new generation of the ranger and in this case will be based (or evolved) on the Volkswagen Amarok so I’m very curious of the market reactions. You don’t know the Amarok yet but overseas we know it. It is fast, it is twin turbo, have nice numbers of torque and power, nice look and size but... in reality is fast but not strong, the engine is full of plastic parts and it is not reliable at all. Blowing heads, flying plastic pulleys, no transfer case, weak gears, crazy electronics....(I had the opportunity to use for a mid term a 2.0 twin turbo and a new 3,2 TDV6) If Ford and VW creates a really good competition it will be remarkable. The good thing is the growing sales of the Ranger will push the new generation of the Tacoma and Isuzu/Chevy/GMC triplets so for me and for the market it is a win win!

Nice review, with a Canadian prospective. You’re right, when Ford comes out with a cabin refresh, it will be a very good truck.

Great review and I will say those stock Hankook Dynapro tires are horrible in the snow. They are pretty good at clearing in the mud, but they pack way too easily with ice and turn into "slicks" in the winter.

With the fuel Econ might as well buy a F150. And with the price of an F150, might as well buy a Ram 2500 with a cummins. Lol

Who buys a truck because of the way it sounds? Oh, it sounds weak but it's faster than all the V6's and pulls more. Duh.

I think what he was hearing was the turbo whine. It definitely sounds different, but I wouldn't say weak. My 2000 5.4L v8 F150 sounds bad ass under WOT. My 2016 3.5L Ecoboost (twin turbo) V6 doesn't have the deep throaty sound to it with the turbo whine, but it will blow the doors off the V8, out haul it, and out tow it.

The GM twins feel like a better option and a real attempt to bring a good product to market. This Ranger seems like a retread for lack of a better term. I wouldn't consider this iteration of this truck for purchase. Maybe the next generation they'll fix the usability of the back seat.

Gladiator isn’t out, the Frontier is a hundred years old and sucks balls, and the Ridgeline doesn’t have a locking differential or a body-on-frame construction. Not really competition.

lets face it, my parents windstar could do most of what the ranger did in this vid. But that would be at the windstars limits and not at all confidence inspiring. This is why you buy a midsize truck, for that extra capability and confidence that the vehicle is built for what your taking it through, and its not gonna snap the rear axle after hitting a bump (darn faulty design, constant worry)

Yes, that back seat room should be at least 2-3" bigger for a crew cab. I also agree that the interior is very dated, especially for american expectations anf alrrsdy looks 10yrs old. Ford should jave addressed this before releasing this to the American market.

The exterior is quite nice, however the interior leaves a lot to be desired. Looks very bland, maybe it's just what you're used to I guess. Definitely a top contender for midsize trucks; really hoping they bring the Ranger Raptor to North America though...

I Always follow TFL vids. You did a fine job. And I think Ford is on the right track. I'd get one, but forget about that 2200 dollar cab and loosing 12" of box space. Now if they poor on some buying incentives this summer, I may step into a Ford dealership for the first time and I can't believe I'm saying that.
