Prices on those bottles - Glenallachie 2010 Oloroso Puncheon - ~120-150 , Glenlivet 21 - ranges 220-300 depending on how old their pricing is, Talisker 18 - ~160-180, Port Charlotte OLC01 - 115-130 if you got it around release, they're probably more today as it was really popular.

Port Charlotte doesnt make a bad bottle....they are all amazing full flavoured peated scotches.....almost always at 100 proof (50%ABV) . A consistent high polling first pick of many scotch drinkers. If you see one, buy it! Port Charlotte whiskies are made by Bruichladdich distillery....and I usually only see them on the shelf for a couple weeks a year here in Canada, so when I see them I pick one up! GlenAllachie makes amazing bottles as well, very complex and flavorful.......very dark in color due to the former wine/sherry/port casks used.

I started as a bourbon drinker but have evolved into a scotch drinker which is my preference now. The more peat the better!! So many bourbons now are over proofed and the high ABV blunts the palate. Same here. I slowly transitioned into higher proof bourbons but after moving back into the flavor depths of scotch at a lower ABV, I much prefer scotch in many cases, both peated and non peated. For me bourbon ABV has a sweet spot of 50-60% Scotch I prefer 46-50%.

This comment is primarily directed to Trent. Regarding your preferences for non-peated Scotch, which is a preference I share with you, I have 3 Scotch suggestions for you to try as well as an Irish whiskey just for grins. These are all between $50-120 in price and should be available at your local stores. Scotchs 1. Dahlwhinnie (15 yr) 2. Glenmorangie Nectar d’Or (aged 2 years in Sauterne barrels) 3. Bunnahabhain 12 yr small batch Isley Irish whiskey 1. Yellow Spot (12 yr, single pot still) All of these lean almost to a brandy in general characteristics. The Glenmorangie has a nose on it that is exceptional. Let us know what you think. I also can’t forget Kirk. You probably have tried this one but it would be interesting to get Trent’s take. I am talking about Lagavulin 16. This is a peated Scotch that I don’t like but it did have some interesting taste notes. My general description for it is that it is the smoothest, nastiest cough syrup I have ever put in my mouth. What surprised me was that it did not burn in any way going down. Very smooth and around the pleated Scotch community, considered one of the best. Hope you enjoy my suggestions.

The first 40 years of my life I was strictly a bourbon drinker. My brother was a scotch drinker. One day I'm at the store and decide to pick up a couple scotches. I bring them home and my brother happens to call me. I tell him I picked up an Ardbeg 10 and a Laphroaig 10. He tells me that I had the Laphroaig before. Then he says, " Actually you didn't have any. You smelled it and said I can't believe you drink this shit". So I open up the Laphroaig I just picked up and the smell is just awful. I put the bottle back up on my shelf and have no plans to ever revist it. About 8 months later I decide to try the Laphroaig with some ice. I have 3 or 4 glasses and I'm thinking this isn't all that bad. The next day I drink a couple glasses with a splash of water. The 3rd day I drink it neat and from that point on I'm hooked. The last 20 plus years has all been about the peat.

10:20 That's normal. I'm not a huge peated Scotch fan and I often struggle to find something other than smoke or peat notes, even after all these years. I remember the first time I drank an Ardbeg I could stay taste it when I woke up in the middle of the night. The thing with peated Scotch is though: the older it is, the less the peated compounds stay inside the whisky. 18 years is a decent age, so it's mellowed down a lot. If you try the Talisker 10 instead and compare them side by side, you'll notice the 10 is a LOT more intense.
