Nextasy by Cirque du Soleil presents, In Residence:
We invited Artisan Award Winner Adam McAlavey for a 5-week residency in Montreal, Canada at the Cirque du Soleil international headquarters to make wearable art.
Adam was born in Lancaster, UK, studied Fine Art at Sheffield Hallam University and is now based in London. He creates wearable art and installations for live performance. The pieces are made from latex and scrap building materials from his commercial set building work.
Emerging from the London fetish scene performing at Rubber Cult and Torture Garden (the world's largest fetish club) his work has come to a wider audience in London with shows in The Victoria and Albert Museum and the National Theatre Studio.
Over the last three years Adam has won four awards at the renowned international design competition World of Wearable Arts in New Zealand including the Cirque du Soleil Invited Artisan Award. In 2018 he performed in New Zealand’s ‘Performance Arcade’ and in Montreal as a part of his 5 week residency with Cirque Du Soleil.
"My time at Cirque was game changing. More than anything I was bowled over by the people. Everyone was so generous and passionate. Being in such an open and sharing environment helped me realise just how much is possible when creatives collaborate."
