What about Jaco's impossibly enigmatic bass line in the last portion of Volcano for Hire. It's the wildest thing! Both atonal and melodic! Like a wound up machine gun spitting out a repeating melody that makes you shout out "shoot me Jaco, shoot...me"! Jaco and all of Weather Report, go all the way back. Man, we didn't know what we had! We really didn't.

Back long time ago in the early eighties, I purchased this album on the strength of a review in the *sounds* music weekly, my tastes back then were a staple diet of prog rock. Any ways, it occurred to me that jazz was what I,d been missing, And so sometimes when I listen to Current Affairs, it sets me on a nostalgia trip cos soon after I bought the album I got into Miles Davis and was fortunate to see him in Glasgow secc. timeless classic, I just wish I could have seen the original line up live.

When I got this album home back in 82, I just knew it was special. Actually, it was underrated even then, and has been all but forgotten since then by a lot of the critics etc. But all the tracks are great, lots of edgy energy. It's difficult to know how much they were taking the piss out of themselves with tracks like NYC Suite. That neo-swing stuff was their stock in trade. Still, it certainly swings...and rocks. It was the last appearence of the great classic WR. I wish Erskine could have been more prominent in the mix in some of the tracks (synths too loud, I'm afraid). They bow out with Dara Factor Two which is one of the most exciting tracks of all time.... Erskine and Pastorious go out on a high note.

Susan Salvetti because it's a very dated sound, but there's elements of this type of prog and jazzy sound out there, mild high club sort of brings a jazzy but really laid back sound on skiptracing. King gizzard brings some prog on Murder of the universe and some other records but not as jazzy. But you know.
