I read the series at the usual age many, many moons ago. Took my kids to see all the films and noticed they weren't completely faithful to the books but not egregiously so. KZitem's algorithm to suggest videos sniffed out somehow that I'm a Tolkien fan, this channel along with a few others like it show up every time I log on. It amazes me the amount of work people put into videos like these, I guess it's a labor of love. Keep up the good work.

Thank you :) Happy you founf your way to me and enjoy my videos ^^ (and that the YT algorithm worked in this case :D ) Yes I guess it's a happy accident - as Bob Ross used to say. I started this channel as a hobby and it was only about gaming. I made this Shadow of Mordor video, to explain the differences between game and books (enjoyed making the video a lot too, because I love Tolkien) and it suddenly really blew up (had like 75 subscribers at this point). With Shadow of War announced I continued to make Tolkien related videos and over time I went from a gaming channel, to a Tolkien channel with a bit of gaming content. I enjoy making lore videos a lot too and people seem to enjoy watching those, so win-win ^^

Fingolfin and Morgoth battling one on one at the gates of Angband is one of my favorite scenes in all of Tolkiens work. Fingolfin is my favorite character in all of Middle Earth and Valinor. And why the hell does every artist make ekves with pointed ears? Tolkien NEVER once EVER said the elves had pointed ears, he only said they were taller and fairer looking ,with a shining light in their eyes for those Noldor who beheld the light of Valinor.

@@combineadvisorwithinternet6040 Hey bro!!! I love Lee`s artwork, as well as Ted Nasmith`s. Lee tends to be more watercolor ,loose and almost ghostly. Nasmith is much more firm and vibrant. I really dont know where the pointy ear thing comes from, but you do agree with me, that Tolkien NEVER ONCE mentions ears on elves in any shape ,at any time. He says that the Noldor and Vanyar and Teleri are all different in that the Noldor are mostly all dark haired, and the Vanyar are mostly blonde haired, as are most of the Teleri. He says that in the first age ,at their "youth" the Elves were all Tall and fair of face ,and those who beheld the light of Valinor had gleaming eyes. As the ages passed ,they grew less in stature,more like men, yet slender and not physically as strong. So, do you agree with me abouut the ears? Let me know man, as you seem to know your Tolkien very well. I have been a Tolkien freak since my childhood. I read the Hobbit while I was in 4th or 5th grade..that would be in 1976-77. I read the LoTR`s and the Silmarillion in H.S. in the early 80`s. It was my dream to have it all on film. But at that time it would have been impossible to even try to create. I was amazed that they had made the movies in the early 2000`s, and I think Peter Jackson did as well as possible, making Tolkkien come to life on the Big screen. To make it totally accurate would have made each movie 10 hrs long!!!!LOL. Write me back my friend!!

@ darsirious I ALWAYS wanted Gandalf to let his full power to come out,but Manwe forbade the Istari to use their power in full, and to only guide,and to aid the peoples of Middle Earth in their fight against Sauron. I would have loved to read, or see Gandalf throw back his cloak, and strip his guise as an old man away and unleash Holy fury at the Nazgul, and smite all of them to dust. Now Sauron is a different story. That fight would have been vicious,and I dont know who would prevail. Yet Sauron spent a great deal of his strength into the making of the One Ring,and his power was greatly diminished because of that. He would use his main method anyway,and that is to instill fear into the hearts of his enemies. I doubt Gandalf ,in his real state of being a Maia, which is what Sauron was, that he would defeat him, probably "dying" himself in the combat. Much like the Balrog, who was a corrupted Maia spirit.

I was always surprise of what I thought it was weakness from the Nazgulls and why they always failed in their attacks. Their apparences make other people afraid but they always failed when it seams so easy for them to win. I think it is the reason why so much people in France declare hate Frodon because they think he is so stupid. I think it's perhaps because they think that they would resist to the ring's attraction. I, I can't resist to the black chocolat's attraction... So 😁. Now I shall see all the story with a new understanding. While the Nazgûl may have been surpassed in my eyes in holding the crown of the greatest causer of sheer terror since the days they were created: It does not mean I would at all enjoy running into beings akin to them, and rather pass on that. On that note: I wonder how much influence the Nazgûl have had on the development of other tales that have various horrifying things that go bump in the night? They kind of do a lot of things with relatively little, and are extremely imposing/terrifying adversaries, sport an iconic look, and have some interesting limitations/powers. You also never find out much about them besides the bare minimal, and only their leader (The Witchking of Angmar) is explored as a character in more detail.

Another reason the Nazgul retreated, is that previously they'd encountered Gandalf on Weathertop: and he messed then up, they were not at full strength and so couldn't put up much of a fight in any case. Aragorn and the Hobbits saw the lightning on Weathertop as the battle transpired.

Thank you for pointing out to people that the primary "power" of the Nazgul is more or less the aura of raw fear they project. If you don't fear them and have some strength and will of your own one can actually fight them off. You couldn't KILL them, but you could survive the encounter. The movies portrayed the Nazgul (as well as the army of the dead) as some kind of hellishly OP entities (which they weren't).

I'm wondering what a Nazgûl would do if he got the ring in his hands. Would he try to use the ring for his own purposes to overcome Sauron and become som kind of new dark lord? Or would he be - after such a long time of servitude - obedient enough to bring it directly to Sauron? In the end, they are bound to the ring, not directly to Sauron. But on the other hand, Sauron created the ring himself.
@ThePhilosophersGames

@@ThePhilosophersGames Yes. I'd agree. Thank you for the answer. You could also add that the ring has his own will and wants to get back to Sauron, so the Nazgûl have no other choice. What are some other stories of Elrond, Gandalf or Galadriel healing people or places. What are the limits of Athelas? And can anyone heal with it, or just the rightful king? Why was the Morgul blade only healable by Elrond?
@ThePhilosophersGames

Yes that's a good topic. Esp. since kings (e.g. in England) are said to have healing hands, which probably inspired Aragorn's ability to heal and his healing hands. @ThePhilosophersGames
4 жыл бұрын
Thank you :) That is the unpleasant or most dangerous part about the Morgul-knife. It can transform its victim into some kind of "lesser" wraith being. Probably only when it pierces the victims heart. Quote (Lord of the Rings, Many Meatings): "[...] for I suspected that there was some fragment of the [Morgul] blade still in the closed wound. But it could not be found until last night. Then Elrond removed a splinter. It was deeply buried, and it was working inwards." and "They tried to pierce your heart with a Morgul-knife which remains in the wound. If they had succeeded, you would have become like they are, only weaker and under their command. You would have become a wraith under the dominion of the Dark Lord; [...]" So you don't die, but are transformed into a wraith. This way I assume they "cheat" Mandos/Námo. Technically the victim doesn't die. The blade also vanishes: "Frodo shuddered, remembering the cruel knife with notched blade that had vanished in Strider’s hands." (we see this in the film too)

Elijah was WAY to young for the character and DEFINITELY didn't show Frodo's courage. However that of course is more due to the writing and directing than his acting. @ThePhilosophersGames
4 жыл бұрын
Yes with the Morgul-knife. If it kills their victim (piercing its heart) it can transform it (at least Men) into a "lesser" wraith like being. Thinking about it it feels a bit strange for Tolkien's universe, but the Lord of the Rings book clearly indicates it. Quote (Lord of the Rings, Many Meatings): "[...] for I suspected that there was some fragment of the blade still in the closed wound. But it could not be found until last night. Then Elrond removed a splinter. It was deeply buried, and it was working inwards." and "They tried to pierce your heart with a Morgul-knife which remains in the wound. If they had succeeded, you would have become like they are, only weaker and under their command. I also think my voice is weird ^^' But I got used o it and I can't change it anyway. The weird sound of the names is however due to Tolkien describing how words of his languages should be pronounced. Nazgûl is black speech though and I imagine it having a rough sound. Usually the first syllable in two-syllable words is stressed. However the circumflex above the u indicates stress or a long U sound too. So in my mind it has emphasis on the A and U. However this is just my interpretation.
