World Premiere of Andrew Webb-Mitchell's symphonic poem "Nights of Seven“ live from Zhuhai Opera House, China. Cologne New Philharmonic and soprano Constanze Xue are performing conducted by Volker Hartung.
Night of Sevens (七夕交响诗) depicts an ancient Chinese folk story about a cowherd (牛郎), a weaver girl 织女 and forbidden love. Banished to opposite sides of the Milky Way the lovers meet just once a year on the 7th day of 7th month, when a flock of magpies form a bridge to reunite the couple. A thousand years ago, the Song Dynasty poet Qin Guan (秦观) incorporated the legend into a poem, immortalised by the line: “When two hearts are united forever, why do they need to stay together day after day, night after night? (两情若是久长时, 又岂在朝朝暮暮?”) The poem has since been cited by generations of long distance lovers.
The Cologne New Philharmonic Orchestra debuted Andrew Webb-Mitchell’s composition, 'Night of Sevens' (七夕交响诗) accompanied by the delightful soprano, Constanze Xue (薛康妮) in the stunning Zhuhai Opera House (珠海大剧院).
