That's really cool. I live an hour from Santa Maria, where this style grill originated and I grew up grilling tri-tip and chicken on them, but I don't recall ever seeing a Weber turned into one. Great job.

That's pretty cool! You can now put the charcoal on the Weber's top cooking grate for more coals. And you can easily temporarily raise it to add more as they burn out.

Hey Allen ..... I'm just now seeing this video. Great idea!!! You might think about using bronze bushings to help minimize the squeaking on the lift rod. You could press a bushing in on both sides of the vertical uprights.

Probably best to use lard or crisco to lubricate that bearing surface. Looks like you did a real nice job on the build. Detroit airport use to have many BBQ grills on display. It's change now but it was a cool trip through there a few times.

A trick I use for drilling with a hole saw without a pilot drill is use the hole saw with a pilot drill through a piece of hardwood and save it. If you find yourself later without a pilot bit you clamp the drilled piece of hardwood to the metal and you can easily align it up easy then use the drill and the hardwood will keep the hole saw on track exactly.

Great idea, but as you've probably learned by now the lift wheel is too small. If you get a 13 lb. block top (top sirloin) on there it'll be quite a tug to lift it.
