The majority of a company’s emissions are often in Scope 3. These emissions can account for 75% of a business’s carbon footprint. With many companies aiming to get to net zero by 2050, decarbonizing their own value chains (Scope 3 emissions) is an unavoidable step to take to meet any net zero targets.
In an evolving regulatory landscape, the need for clear guidance and collaborative efforts across actors within value chains is essential to pave the way for a sustainable and responsible approach to Scope 3 emissions reductions.
In this session with Nutrien, the world’s largest provider of crop inputs and services we learned more about their program to reduce GHG emissions within their supply chain. We also discussed how and why they have partnered with Maple Leaf Foods to co-invest and co-claim the impact of their interventions’ outcomes, and how Nutrien and Maple Leaf will use verified Scope 3 impact units to report on their value chain impacts, share the claims and credibly demonstrate progress towards their scope 3 targets.
