Pipeline Safety: from the Olympic Pipe Line Tragedy to Today
On June 10, 1999, the Olympic pipeline ruptured and spilled 250,000 gallons of gasoline into Whatcom Creek in Bellingham, WA which then ignited and killed two boys and a young man in Whatcom Falls Park. It's been 25 years since that day.
The Pipeline Safety Trust hosted a webinar panel discussion of how the community response to this tragedy was able to impact pipeline safety nationally.
The discussion was moderated by Bill Caram, Executive Director of Pipeline Safety Trust.
The panel includes:
Hon. Jennifer Homendy, Chair of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB)
Shawn Lyon, Senior Vice President Logistics & Storage at MPLX
Alan Mayberrry, Associate Administrator for Pipeline Safety at Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Adminstration (PHMSA)
Carl Weimer, Special Projects Advisor at Pipeline Safety Trust.
