My local A.M.radio station found a wire recorder containing an entire State championship Hi school game from the 1940's. It was transposed and broadcast in it's entitreity- and it was awesome!!

It's so cool to hear random people just hanging around in the past! That man is reading "Somewhere a Roscoe" from 1938. I'm imagining that woman (his wife?) getting a little flustered when he holds out the microphone and then reading the business letter she just happened to walk into the room with.

Amazing to hear those recordings! It is amazing how often those Webster Chicagos still work! I bet it would perform better after some new capacitors. Wire is such a wonderful format.

Super cool. I had the same one but it would only light up and not play.. somewhere along the many moves i lost it. Though, I just found a case of wire recordings from my great grandparents. I think a ebay recorder re buy is in my future. Sounds pretty decent really. Thanks for the post.

I just bought a wire recorder at goodwill. The recording had a man in the 1940’s talking about his $90/ month mortgage

I'll second the MP3 copies! But damn, you've earned my subscription for your ingenuity! I make similar mixes with more modern computer equipment, and it's always fun to see someone else of my own cloth combining tech like that.

Well, I'd be hesitant to plug it in before putting on a new cord for those ends, but I was surprised that the cord was OKAY, and the amplifier didn't have any filter hum. Still, I'd do some amplifier work to prevent it from damaging itself. Otherwise it's a great find!

I have one of these Dave (different model). I had it "gone through" by a local electronics guy. I had him add 1/4 inputs and outputs to it. Currently it is giving me a shock now and then, so I'm afraid to use it! Must need some grounding or something...
@DaveRat
2 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, good chance you get the shock when the power plug is inserted one way into the wall and when reversed, you do not. If the power plug is not polarized with the neural blades being bogger, it can be inserted backwards (reversed) Replacing with a correctly wired polarized plug will solve that

I had an issue about 10 years back with Pearl jam where randomly Eddie was getting shocked by the mic when using a vintage guitar amp he bought at a pawn shop. Each day the tech would test for shock by touching the guitar strings to the mic and if her heard buzz that would shock him and no buzz would not. Reversing the plug would solve the shock. Inside the amp, o e of the ac leads is referenced to the chassis with a capacitor and the other is not. As the unit gets old and the cap gets leaky, that reference becomes a connection that can shock you. If the reference is to the neutral then no shock If the reference is to the hot, shock.

@@DaveRat - Thanks Dave, it worked! Now I know that for old wiring - smooth side of the cord is neutral (wide prong), ridged side of the cord is hot (small prong). Tried to put a ling to a photo of my own recorder, but KZitem doesn't like Facebook links, I guess. Really appreciate your help! :-)

Hey, Dave. I have the same recorder; works great. But, it didn't come with the output cord. Do you know what that connector is called? The one that looks like a small 1/2"-diameter power-connector?
