The good ol' days. We never had any worry of viruses or constant pop ups while surfing. My family still misses WebTV and WebTV Plus. Love this video and the music! Good times!

Ah, WebTV... I had the service from December, 1997 through Summer of 2000. I purchased the original Unit just before Christmas, 1997 (Best Buy Fairfax, VA), then upgraded (at significant cost) to a Phillips WebTV Plus within 3 months, when the Plus became available. That thing accompanied me for years of coast-to-coast travel assignments, etc. Purchased a compatible printer, and everything...! My go-to surfing "music" was the on-board "Jungle Chill" midi, and my family and friends complained that I was unreachable by telephone for days at a time...! (😁😁😁) I actually became a frequent contribute on the WebTV help boards. Good times!!!

that's amazing -- I too bought mine in Dec 3, 1997 ... been on it through June 2006 ... learned everything from javascript (hacking forum) to real audio scripts (my room: 166mhz) - to HTML ... we did all this through internet explorer 2.0 (latest release but started on 1.0 v) ... those were the dayz .... LOL ...

Not just the "poor man's internet"...! Back in 1997-2000 this was the only game in town, so-to-speak. I was a Travel RN who lived/moved all over the United States during the "Web-TV" years prior to my purchasing a PC (with the same dial-up access). Frankly I preferred the Web-TV experience to just about anything from using my PC's miserable dial-up modem...!

Seriously, how can I give this video a "Thumbs-up x 1,000,000"? Because I remember Dial-Up Web-TV service from my local ISP (Winchester, VA). By 01:37, the automatic redial function would have already engaged. Once I had an effective dial-up signal, my friends/family would complain that they had a "Busy" signal on my (home Land Line) phone # for DAYS on end...! =-D "Suck it, I have Web TV!"

@@WillOnSomething I had a long reply which I guess was deleted. I was a kid at the time, but it was specifically only supposed to dial local numbers. It didn’t always happen that way, and resulted in having to make a lot of calls to the phone company to get credits. We were somehow able to eventually block numbers from being called again, once we figured out which ones were wrecking the phone bill.

Both screens (presumably) take place at night, and they both have a scrolling landscape (in the case of WebTV, it's the road).
