About the mother with the white dress: if she's really a narcissist she wouldn't have changed if someone called her out on it. She knew what she was doing and she did it on purpose to get attention. The wine bottle move was honestly the best thing the daughter could've done because a narcissist will always try to save face and it obviously worked. I applaud the daughter honestly

Gonna throw this out for reassurance: it’s not a hard and fast rule that “anyone who knows anything about weddings knows that if there’s an objection then the wedding can’t continue”. I was married by an Anglican priest and if he ever had an objection he would pull that person aside to a private room and ask them for a legal reason the couple can’t get married. If there’s no legal reason, he will then escort the person out if necessary and the wedding continues on. (Didn’t happen at my wedding but that was his procedure)

As a disabled person, I beg you not to use the phrase “differently abled”. Not unless a disabled person tells you to refer to them specifically that way. The disabled community as a whole prefers that you just call us disabled. The phrase “differently abled” was made by abled bodied people who thought that being disabled was such a bad, shameful thing that they needed to force a new more acceptable label on us. That mentality is ableist and is so harmful to us. Disabled is what we literally are, and to treat the word “disabled” like it’s something bad, shameful, and dirty is treating us like we’re bad, shameful, and dirty. I know you mean well and are just misinformed, so I hope from now on you quit using this harmful phrase. “Wheelchair bound” is another bad one but I know you were just repeating the story. The best term is wheelchair user. I use a wheelchair, I’m not bound to it. Just like I wear glasses, I’m not bound to them.
@sugarcookie312
3 жыл бұрын
I agree with this for the most part (I am also disabled) but it is important to understand that some people actually ARE wheelchair bound. I think wheelchair bound is a tricky term to use because unless you know the person you don’t know if they are wheelchair bound but I do believe it is important to know that wheelchair bound can be the correct term to use depending on the person!
@UnguardedAngel
3 жыл бұрын
@@sugarcookie312 thanks for pointing that out. I just know that as a wheelchair user I dislike “wheelchair bound” and the other wheelchair users I’ve met feel the same, including people who are full time wheelchair users. @@UnguardedAngel I just feel like wheelchair bound is a term more widely used and less despised. Like I know I got uncomfortable when I heard them say differently abled even though I knew they meant absolutely no harm by it.
@UnguardedAngel
3 жыл бұрын
@@sugarcookie312 your opinion is totally valid. I just personally feel very uncomfortable with “wheelchair bound” and I know a lot of others do, too. I deal with a lot of ablism for using a wheelchair and people act like the wheelchair is chaining us down, when it’s actually the thing giving us some freedom back. So I guess this is our way of dealing with some of that ablism towards using wheelchairs. Plus we find it weird that it’s the only device to accommodate a disability that people say you’re “bound” to and that doesn’t feel right, especially when combined with how much ablism we face specifically just for using a wheelchair. Like my own family tried to stop me from getting one even though I was sick of being bedridden and stuck inside. I could talk all day about this but I just hope you get that we have valid reasons for being uncomfortable with “wheelchair bound” and I hope that you can respect that. I shouldn’t have forced my preference on anyone else, though. I was just under the impression that all wheelchair users felt this way but I feel bad about my mistake. I’m very sorry. I ask that everyone respect the terms that the individual wants to be referred to as.
@sugarcookie312
3 жыл бұрын
@@UnguardedAngel yeah no absolutely! I wasn’t trying to say that your feelings about the term weren’t valid I was just trying to say that there are still people who use the term wheelchair bound and that it’s a little different from using the term differently abled because I’ve never met a disabled person that didn’t hate that term. I use a wheelchair as well most of the time which is the only reason I am speaking on the use of the term wheelchair bound because I use it because if I want to go anywhere I HAVE to bring a wheelchair or I am not going to get very far.

So they gave the warning to every couple to avoid any problems. Every "funny" friend was warned by the bride and groom, just in case. 😂😂😂 I think more progressive ones could consider giving a pass depending on how the groom and his friend reacted after learning the wedding could be suspended. As someone who had a surprise period on her wedding day… the comment of planning ur wedding around your cycle is something to consider especially if you are prone to having ur monthly without any warning at times. I cried so hard when I realized I bled through my dress. Thankfully the owners of the venue acted fast and took my dress and cleaned it for me as I cried in the bathroom stunned at the fact it happened to begin with. To this day there’s nothing I wouldn’t do for that woman, I lost my mom to cancer before I could get married so I didn’t have my parents at my wedding and that act alone was such a monumental moment. The psychiatrist that diagnosed her told my mom that if she didn't get away from her, she very likely die. To this day sis spreads lies about parents. I got my hair dyed black and my mom threw a fit (3 days before service), I had my nail appointment set up the next day for weeks and mom cancelled last minute so I went with my middle brother (#2 of 3 - this also caused another fit), I drove 30 mins from my home to get ready with my mom and I WAS LATE after she bought me lingerie that was 2 sizes too big and made me put EVERYTHING on before realizing it wouldn't work, MIL and FIL brought my husband's older brother (28m now) who was hard on drugs at the time, we had a service with the JOP during pandemic but all of them pushed to attend inside the office (at first JOP said we could have 2 guests, but he gave in), my mom invited her abusive mom and pedo stepdad who I refuse to acknowledge to the reception, BIL stayed for about 10-15 minutes before he left to pout in the truck because he DIDN'T LIKE HIS FOOD, then my husband spent about 70% of the remaining reception trying to get him to come back in. 🙄 Everyone but myself was on their absolute worst fucking behavior. I do have to say, now that it isn't so recent, I truly believe it was the best day of my life. I know that I expressed my deep love to my best friend and he returned that love to me in the presence of people we love. 💗

controversial yet brave, but the bride is entitled to set outfit requirements for the wedding. i want wedding photos to include my guests, so i’d like everyone to look cohesive. setting a color palette really isn’t that big of a deal, and if you respect the bride then you shouldn’t have a problem

My wedding was 8,000 it was venue, food, my dress and my wedding planner. 🥰 and me and my husband bought a house in the same year. It’s possible. Stop thinking a wedding is 30,000-100,000 wedding 😅😅

That’s just you babes. My wedding is already looking to be about 20,000. The dress I’m looking at alone is 6 grand. It all depends on the person and where. I want a fancy wedding. You seemed to have more of a frugle wedding (not a bad thing at all). But I want an open bar as most people do as well as a weed bar since it’s legal. So my wedding will be so far passed 8 grand 😂.

Me being raised by two narcissist’s I can totally understand where the girl who spilled the wine is coming from. My mom and my dad are not together so I had to relive over and over again the same tendencies, when you tell a narcisissist they can’t do what they want they will do it anyway no matter the situation, cause if it’s making them feel good about themselves then no one else matters, so if she had just told the mother to change clothes the mom would not have listen. I know the mom is saying “you could have just told me and I would’ve changed” but knowing my parents and their tendencies this would not have worked, so the girl just skipped a few steps and did what she would have end up doing anyways

I am FAR from a wedding expert, but I would think a lot of the reason modern weddings cost tens of thousands of dollars is because of the outrageous venues people select. Back in the day, most people just held weddings at their local church and receptions at their local Lion's Club (or something similar). I would imagine people could still have decently affordable weddings today if they didn't get so extravagant with it.

"differently abled" no no no no no. As a physically disabled person who knows a lot of other disabled people, "disabled" is often the preferred term, and in general, "disabled" is not a 'bad' word. Trying to skirt around disability by finding a phrase that feels more comforting is...not the greatest way go about it. Also "wheelchair bound" is a no-go, too. You would rephrase it with "He uses a wheelchair." His wheelchair gives him independence and freedom that he otherwise wouldn't have. There's a lot more to unpack here that I don't have the energy to type out, but I just found your channel and I've been watching episodes at random here and there (they're ALL good! omg). I think it'd be super cool if you did an episode on disability/illness to better understand how to communicate about and to people with disabilities.

2:16 Weddings from fifty years ago weren't as extravagant/as much of a show as they are now. Granted, issues like inflation weren't as much of a problem then, so houses were more affordable. But still, people are taking weddings too far; they've become shows instead of being the solemn and beautiful occasions they deserve to be.

Hannah, I totally agree with you. Sure explains the rise in divorce from the expenses of these bridezillas. I opted for a small, small Lake Tahoe wedding instead. My husband splurged on my ring instead. We saved our money for vacations and other future. We married late in life and we both each own our own homes.

My husband and I have been looking at getting a home but it's something we can't afford where we live unless we save for 10+ years for a mortgage. Since we wanted a small wedding, it was so cheap to get married in comparison. Buying a house here is 400k+ and getting married only cost us about 3k.

Yeah, those parents are total assholes! Apparently they're doing it for their own selfish reasons. Sounds to me like they get something out of staying friends with this other family, IDK if it's monetary, like a business partnership or just social status, but it's somehow worthwhile to them to risk the relationship with their own son to maintain this friendship, however fucked up it is! Despicable!

I think the girl who left her fiancee after his accident wanted him at her wedding to show other people that "see, he's ok with me leaving him! I'm not a shit person who abandoned him!" And THAT'S why there is now a ruined relationship between the families. Because the other guests didn't see this "performance" and might still not like what she did to him.
@brenthunter5078

The wheelchair story brings up some very important things. I'm blind, so I can just not go or walk away from manipulative family members, but it seems that people think that a person being disabled makes them an automatic child, so if someone believes something to be good, they have no right to say no. This is not okay. People get the wrong idea bout abuse. People with good intentions can be abusive. In this case, if you think someone's just being vindictive for not wanting to watch the person who they were in love with who left them because of their disability marry someone else, not sure why you would, but okay, you can just push the wheelchair to the car and literally force him to go. When someone is an adult, they get to do things that aren't good. What if this were something else? What if he wanted to stay out late, and his family thought he needed a curfew. They could just show up and grab the chair and take him against his will. They'd likely argue that being out late is dangerous or that he needs his sleep. Too bad. You can disagree all you want, but that person is an adult. You don't get to control or manipulate them for good or bad reasons. When I was younger, my family kept trying to convince me to let them have control over my finances. You can do math without being able to see, and even if you can't, they make talking calculators. Plus, I can use my computer or ask my echo dot now. Regardles, they had this idea that they should be deciding what I can spend my money on. Any time they try to exert control over my life, my dad says, "We're just trying to help." Mom leaves me alone. It's usually him and my stepmom doing this. I'm just trying to help is not an excuse for anything even if you truly believe it. You might know that you're right and that I should do what you want, but you don't get to make me do it. I never gave my family authority over my money, because it would never have been as simple.as my dad claimed. He said, if I wanted some of my money, I should ask him, and he'd give it to me, but you and I know that what would actually happen is that I'd ask for some of my money, and he'd ask what I want it for. Then, he'd either just say no, or he'd try to talk me in to changing my mind, so that he can say that he didn't force me to do anything. He likes to play headgames like that. he likes to do that thing where he lets you think it's up to you, but he has decided that it isn't. He manipulates you in to changing your mind, and if you catch on, he just says, you chose this.

The first story, 6-7 months is extremely quick to be moved on to someone else and also a very short engagement period. That is probably the fastest that anyone could plan a wedding. That should have immediately told the mom that the ex had cheated and was likely rushing due to a pregnancy. Also i loved Alexandra's "you can respectfully decline, or disrepectfully decline" 😂
