Meteorologist Ashley Renee has your 6:50 am forecast. Good morning and happy Wednesday. This is the fourth day in a row that we’ll be under an excessive heat warning. The excessive heat warning will be in effect from 9 AM until 9 PM. Some of our parishes and counties will be under a heat advisory (10am - 7pm). Highs will be in the upper 90s and heat indices will be around 110-115. Skies will be mostly sunny to partly cloudy. Most, if not all of our area should remain dry through the morning. Scattered showers and thunderstorms should develop this afternoon & evening. Heat indices may come down a touch as the ridge of high pressure that’s contributing to hotter weather and more humid conditions should weaken some and move east of our area in a couple of days. We’ll also have the usual summertime pattern of scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. Tropical moisture and rain chances may increase for us next week as Beryl is expected to move into the Gulf over the weekend and possibly make landfall near the NE coast of Mexico/southern tip of Texas. Tracking the tropics: Hurricane Beryl is still a major hurricane. As of 4 AM Wednesday morning, it’s still a Category 4. It did reach Category 5 status Monday night and was a Cat. 5 for most of Tuesday. It has wind speeds of 145 mph and is moving south of Hispaniola. Jamaica will unfortunately likely take a direct hit. It should reach Jamaica sometime later today/this evening. As Beryl continues moving west towards the Yucatan peninsula over the next couple of days, it’s expected to weaken some. There may be enough wind shear to help it weaken. Moving right over Jamaica (interacting with land) should also contribute to it weakening some. It should also weaken some more once it reaches more land (the Yucatan peninsula). It should leave the Yucatan peninsula and cross into the Gulf sometime on Saturday. There may be enough wind shear to help it not re-strengthen after it enters into the Gulf. It looks like it could make landfall near the NE coast of Mexico/southern tip of Texas late Sunday/early Monday. The only impacts we may see is increasing tropical moisture moving into our area which will help rain chances to be a little higher next week. Invest 96L is still moving through the Atlantic, but it has low chances of continuing to develop into an organized system to become a tropical depression or storm. There’s still disorganized shower and thunderstorm activity associated with this tropical wave. It should just bring heavy rainfall and gusty winds to the Lesser Antilles today. More tropical updates will of course be posted on air and online. Thanks for watching. Have a wonderful Wednesday!
