I used a flat tine little rototiller blade off of a little cheesey two stroke. Bending the tines EQUALLY IN SMALL INCREMENTS until I found the sweet spot. Its effective as a prop for trolling. Oh and my weed eater is a Straight Shaft with an elbow at the end and I just flipped it over and packed it with Marine Grease. I flipped the adjustable handle over and attached it to an oar lock that I attached to the back of the boat.

Try a Long Boat configuration with a gimbal bracket on the transom. Extend a handle over the motor and use a prop with some pitch on it!, trimmer rpm is lower than a trolling motor. Expect no more than 5 mph.
@4x4BMW

I did this as a teenager with great results . Idk I must have gotten lucky and it rotated the right way. But I also rotated the motor so the curve pointed back and not down .

A propeller with sharper blade angles would be my guess as to what went wrong. Oh and if you drilled a hole half way up the shaft that will keep it from sucking up water in the shaft. Just a little food for thought.😂
